arjen-robbenBayern Munich star Arjen Robben has revealed that Louis van Gaal has urged him to join him at Manchester United this summer.

Netherlands finished their last game of the 2014 FIFA World Cup with a 3-0 victory over host nation for a third place finish. After the completion of the tournament, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager will step down from his post as the national team coach.

Van Gaal will now take the reigns at Old Trafford and had urged the Dutchman to leave Bayern for United. However, the former Chelsea winger has snubbed a chance to join the Red Devils as he claims he is happy with the Bundesliga champions.

“I have a special bond with him. He is the most important coach in my career. After the match he did ask me to come to Manchester.  It is not an option. I will stay at Bayern Munich,” Robben said.

The 62-year-old has also heaped praise on Robben and has given an open invitation for him to join United, should he decide to leave Bayern in the future.

“He is always welcome at Manchester United,” Van Gaal told about Robben.

Meanwhile, Van Gaal remains hopeful the current crop of players at Old Trafford would emulate the Netherlands teams, which finished third in the World Cup after losing out to Argentina in the semifinals.

“I hope that the group in Manchester will become like this one – we have to start singing from the same hymn sheet,” United manager explained.

“I will do my best – whether that’s enough for the fans I will wait and see, but I genuinely hope that will be the case.”

Under the guidance of David Moyes, United finished seventh in the league table and that resulted in them missing out on the Champions League football this campaign. The poor form last season saw the former Everton manager being shown the exit door just 10 months into his six-year contract.

The Red Devils faithful would be hoping Van Gaal could help them bring back the glory days at Old Trafford. After having an impressive spell with the Netherlands in the World Cup, United fans should really be excited this season after a disappointing year.
