West Ham stun Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal by signing Tevez and Mascherano

Bloody hell…

If Sky Sports are to be believed - and they have an excellent track record so there’s little reason to doubt them - the Corinthians are sending Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano to West Ham on season-long loans.

West Ham have struck a deal with MSI (who own the rights to the Corinthian pair) and both Tevez and Mascherano will apparently stay at West Ham for a season before making the move permanent if all parties (the players, West Ham and MSI) are satisfied.

Oh, how I wish this was a joke :)

Once it had been confirmed that Tevez and Mascherano were going to play in England (both going AWOL, their agents in London and what not), the top 3 clubs (Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal) were thought to be the most likely destinations for the Argentinian pair. Manchester United were interested in both Mascherano and Tevez, Arsenal were after Mascherano and had been linked very closely with him (although The Sun, in its infinite wisdom thought that Arsenal would go after Tevez instead) while Chelsea and Tevez have an history going back to May when Mourinho went to watch the Corinthians play.

But no. No Chelsea, no Arsenal, no Manchester United.

As Hasan would say - West ‘fucking’ Ham!

Ok, now, first up, congratulations are in order to West Ham - the club, and obviously to their supporters, who would be over the moon after hearing this news (man, who wouldn’t?). This is a major coup, so let’s look at the consequences:

Will Reo-Coker leave now?

Arsenal and Manchester United have been linked with Reo-Coker, so there is a good chance that one of those clubs could snap him up today.

Will Tevez and Mascherano move to bigger clubs next season?

This is something I’m guessing could happen. I think that the big three (Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United) all had doubts over how well the two players would adapt to the pace of the Premiership, so this ‘loan season’ will be a chance for the big clubs to watch Tevez and Mascherano play. There is also a chance that none of these clubs were willing to pay too much for them, so in an effort to squeeze out bigger bucks T and M are being sent to West Ham.

Is this really true?

I’m hoping it’s all bollocks, but no, this looks to be true. Otherwise, SkySports.com just lost any credibility they had (and along with the BBC and Guardian, they are the only news agency you can trust).

Does it matter?

Not to Chelsea fans, it doesn’t. There are rumours that AC Milan have launched a bid for Drogba, but I doubt that Chelsea will sell unless they have a replacement lined up.

Arsenal - well, they have Reo-Coker to go for, plus Gallas as well, but what happened to the secret meetings with Mascherano’s agent? The pressure is on them to sign someone, although with the Reyes-Baptista exchange rumoured to be taking place today Arsenal will finally have some steel in their team.

Manchester United - with Hargreaves saying that his dream move to Manchester United is dead and with Rossi going to Newcastle, I seriously don’t know what we’re going to do today.

Oh, and once again, West Ham and Alan Pardew, good on ya.

  1. What are you doing Fergie?!?!?!?!
This summer is our best chance of landing Mascherano..

  2. Now you can read on BBC’s website, too, so this seems to be true. And you may visit carlitostevez.com.ar. That’s the official website of Tevez.

  3. Gill and Alex Ferguson should resign from the club. I’m completely dissapointed. We have no quality midfield and certainly we lack a good striker. I don’t think we will have any success this season even though people are commenting our 3 wins, what about 33 games left plus Champions league?. I though this summer we will get at least a good ballwinning midfielder, but no. We got nothing.

  4. Sky got the story from Tevez’ personal web-site. http://www.carlitostevez.com.ar/por/index.phpe.

So it has to be true! The second comment about the fee for the two being too high so the big clubs want to first see if they adapt, makes a lot of sense! However it is also a gamble and if they do extremely well would mean only one club could afford them and buy them even if they didnt need them.

  5. Hey, MSI tried to buy West Ham last year. on the West Ham boards it is the general opinion that they will offer the two players plus cash for the club. I am a west Ham fan and am naturally extatic at the moment (Not tryin to rub it in- I still love you guys for nickin’ Spur’s Champions league place). I thgink they will join west ham on a full. No way can the club turn down an offer like this!

  6. 1) rumours are that MSI were only willing to send out Tevez and Mascherano as a pair - which is why Arsenal didnt get them. Question is - why didnt United move for them? Is it that MSI want the players to stay and settle in London (Chelsea)?

    2) The news is only on Tevez’s site, not on the west ham site. That would mean that the move isn’t confirmed yet.

    Conspiracy theories…oh well.

  7. Hey Andy!!!

You love us for nickin the CL spot from Spurs? Guess what mate?

We love you for rubbing their noses in it!! hehe

On top of this we’ve loaned rossi out, and saha will probably get injured next game leaving us with only rooney and ole.. but we’ve got great options in smith, o’shea and fletcher. we really have. as fergie says “theres no doubt about that.

Leave NOW and take Gill with you.

  9. Although previously denied and still unproven I can’t help thinking the stories linking Abramovich and MSI have some substance. Now add in the connection between MSI and Corinthians and this smacks of West Ham being a stepping stone for Tevez and Mascherano on their way to Chelsea - West Ham have been a faithful feeder club to Chelsea in recent years ;-)

  10. Arsenal and your fans…respect to you for your attitude over this. It’s been a pleasure to watch some of your performances over the years. As for the Lillywhites? Well, they’ve no class, have they? What an embarassement at the end of last season. I haven’t stopped laughing since and the thought of poor old Jermaine’s face as he came over to take a corner at the Bobby Moore/East Stand…who needs a Mastercard…that was truely priceless. Incidentely, where are all the Spurs fans on the net today? This is our little moment in the spot light but you have nothing to worry about with the set up at Arsenal. Your money is football money and you are secure in your new stadium. Who would want to swap that to be in the possition of the West London Mafia? What goes arround, surely comes arround and there’s no way that Abramovic will live a long and prospedrous life…after all, if you lie down with dogs, you’re gonna get fleas. When he and his money are gone, what will they be left with? What I’m trying to say is, don’t loose site of the good and never give up…the easy way is often, in the long term, a mistake.

  11. It is hard to believe, but looks like West Ham will return to their glory days before that unfortunate run that led them into the Championship. Tottenham, step aside. I just can’t believe that we of all people did not even attempt to get them on seaon-long loan with a view to buy them. That would seriously fit our tight budget, won’t it? Give us options and not actually gambling? If this deal goes through, I’m sure there will be some rough rides for the Glazers.

  12. I don’t understand what is going on in Old Trafford. What was the need to send out Rossi to Newcastle? Rooney and Saha are our only attacking options. Solsjkaer is coming back after 3 years and he cannot really be expected to fire in 20 goals and Saha has a propensity for injury. What then? Smith back into the forward line?

  13. Totally unbelievable…

  14. According to this article Kia Joorbachian, owner of MSI, was contemplating buying West Ham earlier this month. Certianly he seems to have had discussions with the club that may built the kind of relationship that would allow this deal to happen. I haven’t seen this mentioned elsewhere. Has anyone else?

  15. Yes, Ben. We heard it 9 messages earlier from Andy for a start and the link between MSI and WHU has been going on a few months more than that too. Whether that link with the club goes ahead or remains just a link-up to get MSI’s two feature players some promotion in the PL remains to be seen. WHU would certainly be a cheap entry into the PL for MSI.

Darren’s suggestion that MSI has links with Abramovich are wrong. Maybe 6 months ago there was a BBC2 documentary on Boris Berezovsky confirming he was behind it. Berezovsky ws originally a mentor to Abramovich and worked with Joorabchian in a deal where the latter fronted a purchase several years ago, then disappeared back to Kent until MSI surfaced the other year. Since then, BB has fallen out quite badly with RA over some shares that were sold too cheaply. I don’t think they’ll be doing deals between each other except at full cost.

All this being the case, people shouldn’t berate the Man U board on this one. MSI are in full control of where these players get placed, which is how come this is a loan deal and not an outright purchase. The auction for allcomers will take place after they’ve proved themselves (or otherwise) at the Boleyn.

Certainly a surprise move, but not one without its own logic.

  16. Just heard Joorabchian talk about the deal and the complicated and “undisclosed” terms. Plenty of Hammers asking if they actually own the pair in the sense of being able to buy\sell and profit from the deal, but the terms remained undisclosed. My assumption is that that’s a no…

Separately, Chelsea are specifically saying Abramovich has no link at all with MSI. No prevarication about that.

  17. Nice site, I have bookmarked your site yet and I will come back again ! You have a gratest site!
