Newcastle United are hurting, and it’s their own fault

Newcastle United Logo

I’m sorry, but there’s nothing remotely romantic about Newcastle’s current plight - they are in a mess, and it’s of their own choosing (the management and club, not the fans).

No football fan ‘deserves’ this, but then again no football fan deserves to see their club relegated to the third division (Leeds) after playing in the CL a few years ago, or relegated from the Premiership and losing out on 30m on the last day after being favourites to stay up (Sheffield United).

Football is tough - and when it comes down to it, the responsibility stops with the club management.

A new manager (Sam Allardyce is expected to be ‘unveiled’ soon) will help matters, but the problems are structural and deep-rooted, and will require long-term, difficult solutions.

Here’s a look at the top stories covering Newcastle United in the last week (from our Newcastle United blog) - a majority of them surround Big Sam’s impending signing, which is understandable, but there are interesting transfer stories as well.

Allardyce certain to be appointed Newcastle manager next monday - despite the rumours surrounding Houllier and Eriksson, there was only one serious candidate - Big Sam.

Michael Owen leaving Newcastle - you’ve GOT to be kidding - he can’t leave yet, can he? Out of ‘honour’, he’ll stay at least one more year and stay injury-free, because another injury-wracked season could end his career.

With Allardyce in charge, who will come and go at Newcastle? - a look at possible transfers under Sam Allardyce.

Owen’s silence on his Newcastle future is troubling.

Why Sam Allardyce is a lot different than Graeme Souness - I thought it was obvious, but apparently it needed clarifications.

Alan Shearer supports Big Sam - but does Sam really need his approval?

Charles N’Zogbia on his way out of Newcastle? - anyone looking for a young, talented left-winger? How long before N’Zogbia to Manchester United rumors start popping up?

  1. Thats funny because most of the things where you say its Newcastls fault is actually the media and other sources such as this talking utter bollocks that creates things for you to then cry about at a later date. In other words stop making up crap to write about and fill a page then complain about it!

  2. N’Zogbia would be great at Spurs - then Martin Jol can stop playing lennon on the left. I can’t really see Sir Alex buying too many players to be honest, if it ain’t broke…

  3. Owen should leave!! he didnt wanna go to newcastle in the first place!!

  4. Richard - if Michael Owen didn’t want to come - he shouldn’t have signed his 4 year contract.
Bet you any money he doesn’t leave Newcastle !
He couldn’t possibly leave - otherwise he’s go down as an unethical selfish little

  5. Mag - lighten up :D :D
Newcastle will be great again - much quicker than you think :D

N’Zogbia to Spurs…please please please. If I say please three times will it happen?

  7. YH Micheal Owen will leave Newcastle in the summer and Ed said “unethical selfish little” well thats how us Liverpool fans feel when we think of him so dnt bet against it.

  8. Well ED was newcastle his first, second, third or fourth choice? was it even fifth?? dont think so. He was there to get games under his belt, thats it, he wouldnt kiss the badge and mean it, he doesnt wear his heart on his sleeve the times he has played, quite simply newcastle are an average team, michael owen is world class.

He should be at one of the top four.

He wasnt getting enough games at real madrid for the quality he possesses.

TBH i wouldnt care if poeple called me ‘unethical selfish little’ because your at a club thats going nowhere fast. a footballers career isnt long, and therefor if your better than the team your in ala tevez you dont need to stay at that club, regardless of what fans or anyone else at newcastle thinks. im pretty sure newcastle know all this. a player like owen needs european football, something newcastle cant offer him, so why should he stay?
