Romeu joined Chelsea from Barcelona in 2011, but the Spaniard found it hard to settle in at the London club due to injuries mainly and was sent on loan this season. Valencia were keen to sign him permanently while they even attempted to include an ‘option to buy’ clause in his contract but Chelsea refused, as the Blues felt the player could evolve strongly after nursing his knee injury.

Valencia president Amadeo Salvo said during the presentation of Romeu, back in July: “A player like you, young and dedicated, is the future of a club like Valencia”. Such speech makes total sense now, as Romeu developing into a vital player for the team.

In recent weeks, he has been in good form with the Los Che, helping the Spanish side earn clean sheets in vital games, both at home and abroad. He had put a strong performance against Swansea City in the Europa League while his performance against Osasuna, a match Valencia won 3-0, was praised in the Spanish media as well.

According to local newspaper Superdeporte, Valencia will try their best to keep the player at the club. Romeu has not played much during his time with Chelsea and there is no guarantee that he will be straightaway drafted in the squad, whereas he felt like a valuable player again in Valencia. He stays closer to his family, living in Tarragona and the player could be willing to further his career in Spain, rather than moving abroad again.

Further, after this season, he would only have one year left on his contract (valid until 2015) which could lead Chelsea to negotiate on the deal but, obviously, if Romeu keeps growing this much, his price will also increase, and Valencia will struggle to make the deal permanent.
