Update: Latest on the future of £30m Tottenham flop

Reports from Italy have claimed that Serie A sides Napoli and Inter Milan are set to battle it out for Tottenham flop Erik Lamela in the summer. It is believed that the Argentine who has failed to settle down at White Hart Lane since arriving from Roma for a hefty price tag of £30m wants a return back to the Serie A.

The 22 year old who has been left out of Argentina’s squad for the World Cup in Brazil is currently training with River Plate to regain his fitness.

Napoli would love to bring the midfielder on loan to the Stadion Sao Paolo as manager Rafa Benitez looks set to strengthen his already impressive side over the course of the summer.  Inter Milan too have significant interest in the winger but it is believed that a move to Napoli seems more likely as claimed by Gazzetta Dello Sport.

Lamela hasn’t been able to stamp his authority at Spurs this season with niggling injury concerns featuring in just 15 appearances, most of them being from the bench. The Argentine has netted only once but his previous spell with Roma fully guarantees that he can change any game single handedly by the scruff off the neck.

Tottenham though would in no way want to lose a player of his calibre for whom they spent tons of cash in the previous summer and the London club might turn down offers in the summer.

  1. ‘..but his previous spell with Roma fully guarantees that he can change any game single handedly by the scruff off the neck.’ Who writes this stuff? Did you ever go to school and learn English?

  2. Much has been touted about Erik Lamela’s failure to adapt last season. It appears the player was not given a fair run by either Andres Vilas Boas or Tim Sherwood, who preferred to stick with a favoured first choice. The club would not have paid out £30m if the player in question could not perform. Despite his injuries, some players need more than a season to come into their own. So, in view of a number of european clubs wishing to sign Erik Lamela, I believe Spurs should give him a chance to prove his worth and allow him to be in the starting line ups. Players need
consist appearances to improve. We have not seen anywhere near his potential, and the club did not buy him to sit on the bench. I believe the new manager will work with him to rebuild his confidence and get the best from a player who offers potential. Roberto Soldado had played throughout last season and clearly did not live up to expectations. Perhaps Mr Baldini will admit he was a bad acquisition. Offload him for a proven striker would help the club and possibly Adebayor, who is not consistent and has not been for some time now.

Give Erik Lamela a chance with more first team starts. I know he will eventually come good.
