Spurs have been chasing the youngster for a while and have stepped up their chase for the Dane, as the North Londoners are poised to lose their talisman winger Gareth Bale to Real Madrid.

Tottenham are reported to have offered around £8million for the 21-year-old, but Ajax are still holding out for their initial £12million valuation. Chairman Daniel Levy was in Amsterdam on Wednesday to discuss the possibility of signing the midfielder, who has just one year left on his current contract, and it seems like the talks gone well between both the parties.

“Yes, Levy was here and Eriksen has been given permission to speak to Tottenham,” Ajax director of football Marc Overmars told De Telegraaf.

“There is no agreement yet until it’s signed,” Overmars added. “Obviously, if it happens, we won’t be happy at all to lose him but he only has a year left on his contract.”

Spurs will pay an initial payment of €4m in the summer, while further installments of the same amount will take place in the next two years, taking the total transfer payable to €12 million.

Eriksen is not seen as a direct replacement for Bale, but the youngster would definitely provide an alternative creative outlay for Spurs, especially at the middle of the park. The Denmark international is very good at set pieces, adept in finding key passes in the final third, and has scored 32 goals already in 161 appearances for Ajax at a tender age.

Spurs have already bolstered their squad in the summer and have landed a few quality players like Nacer Chadli, Paulinho, Etienne Capoue and Roberto Soldado. Further, they have agreed a €30 million deal for Roma’s talisman winger Erik Lamela.

It is also understood that  Steaua Bucharest defender Vlad Chiriches, who has been pictured at Heathrow airport, is also set to sign for Tottenham in an £8.5 million deal.
