Steven Gerrard News Archives

Steven Gerrard is arguably Liverpool’s most famous player of his generation and on talent alone is probably one of the most explosive and determined midfielders you can find in the world today.

He’s been misused for England and recently at Liverpool - his main talents in my view are running the show in midfield alongside a skillful passer like Pirlo who is able to float up and and down the pitch filling the gaps as well as creating opportunities for the rest of the team.

At Liverpool, he has Alonso to do that for him. In England, there’s only Carrick and he’s almost never picked to play alongside Gerrard.

Liverpool captain, Scouser for life and will probably never leave Liverpool, although he might have to if he wants to win the Premiership (then again, who knows?).

There...

Learning from history: How Benitez must avoid the mistakes made by Houllier

My Grandad always used to say “The Runners Up in anything are just the first losers”. It is a notion that is unlikely to endear himself to the man who he refers to consistently as “Bennertez”, as Rafa Benitez wakes up today contemplating being...

This must be a first. A story comes out of Newcastle United that ISN’T a shock. Joey Barton suspended by the club “until further notice”, in addition to his three game FA ban, and unlikely to play for the club again — regardless of whether...

Did Rafa’s mind games put Liverpool in a sticky situation?

“Gerrard wants to play,” said Benítez, “We have to train and talk with him, but he’s had the problem before and was playing. We need people who are 100% fit now, so it would be a calculated risk, but he is a key player...

Chelsea v Liverpool - Bravo!

Barcelona v Chelsea.

The sentence no Liverpool fan wanted to hear this morning, even though most expected to. So the European season for Liverpool has ended prior to the semi final stage for only the second time in five seasons after...

The short list has been announced today for the PFA Player and Young Player of the year awards. Unsurprisingly both Steven Gerrard and Cristiano Ronaldo are there and the Portuguese winger is joined by four of his United team mates.

Rio Ferdinand,...
