Frank Lampard News Archives

Frank Lampard - former West Ham player, now plays for Chelsea and is one of the best midfielders in the Premiership, despite what his critics say. In my view, he plays far too much football and should take breaks - plus he’s never found the right manager or the tactical approach to help him do well on the international stage since 2004/2005.

That’s a pitty, because the Chelsea Lampard could do wonders for England.

Transfer Rumors: Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, Juventus, Bayern Munich

Today’s transfer roundup won’t be too long, because I’m being generous. I’m sure you all have much better things to do than to sit and read for an extended period of time…right?

Déjà Vu – Liverpool and Chelsea in the Champions League

Yes, we’re back to that age old rivalry between the Red-Men from Liverpool, and the Blues from London, the Angels of the North against the Arseholes of the South. So here is a very Liverpool view on why we will beat Chelsea, and then see Fergie in the final in Moscow.

Why is Lampard worried about his Chelsea contract?

Why is Frank Lampard so upset at not being offered a new contract? At his age and with his talents, he could walk into any team (yes, even Liverpool with their stuffed central midfield) if he were to leave Chelsea. And he wants to stay at Chelsea, then he already has a contract on the table which he’s turned down and asked for more money in return.

Talking to the London Evening Standard:

“I’ve been approached a few times by the club saying they are going to come to me with something and they haven’t. That means they’re saying they will have to wait until the summer and I don’t really know what that means. I said at the beginning of the season I didn’t want to talk about my contract because I wanted to concentrate on my football.

They have made contact but it hasn’t been with any news. They’ve been saying that something is going to happen but if we wait until the summer and nothing happens then I’ve got a year left which is not a position I want to be in.”

Why not? Seriously, if you want to stay at Chelsea, then does it matter if you have one year left or if your contract runs out?

FA Cup Fifth-Round Roundup: Gunners get shot down, Reds left red-faced, and Lamps lights it up for Chelsea.

So, where to start?

Do I lead in with Liverpool’s crushing defeat at home, or do I kickoff things with Manchester United’s demolition of Arsenal?

Chelsea v Olympiakos - 07/08 Champions League 2nd Round Preview

New manager, same result.

In September, Chelsea parted ways with Jose Mourinho, who had guided the club to two semifinal appearances and another appearance in the Champions League round of 16 in three seasons, after Claudio Ranieri led the Blues to a place in the semifinals in 2003/04, the season before Mourinho’s arrival.

Well, Avram Grant’s picked up where his predecessors left off, leading Chelsea to another place in the last 16.

Football Quotes of the Year - 2007

Here are some notable quotes made during the past year. Each was stated by the named individual; however, my responses were created, and are not meant to represent the views of the individuals. Nor libel them in any way. This is both a factual and (hopefully) a light-hearted article.

Chelsea v Everton - 07/08 Carling Cup Semifinal Preview

Carling Cup holders Chelsea will be looking to advance to a second consecutive final and third in four years when they take on Everton in the Carling Cup semifinals next month.

Chelsea took home the cup in 2005 and 2007 under Jose Mourinho, and they’re looking to get Avram Grant his first trophy as the Blues’ touchline technician.

On the other side, the trophy case is a little lonely. Everton are looking to advance to their first League Cup final since 1984 (1-0 defeat to Liverpool in a replay) and their first final of any kind since the 1995 FA Cup final, in which they defeated Manchester United 1-0.

England - heroes (Chelsea) and losers (Liverpool)

The fact that Terry came back so quickly after a knee injury (a big risk considering how important he is to Chelsea) and is willing to lead England out for a meaningless friendly is worth respecting. It’s an even bigger deal that Frank Lampard is willing to go one step further and take painkilling injections for his broken toe so he can play for England.

Chelsea, and Chelsea fans, should be proud to have these players pulling on the blue shirt. And while I’m not big fans of the two (dammit, it’s the United bias), I respect them for showing so much dedication for England as well.

Chelsea and the peculiar case of Frank Lampard

If Frank Lampard leaves Stamford Bridge tomorrow morning, I would not give two lights.

If a Chelsea fan had said that to you a few years ago, you would probably think they are either a) stupid, b) mad or c) one of those new fans that liked the look of Roman Abramovich’s money. However, that same comment in July 2007 would be met with a relative amount of indifference by many, by a few more general agreement.

Should Chelsea cash in on Lampard?

After seeing how Arsenal and Manchester United got less money than they deserved for their star strikers, there’s a good case to be made that Chelsea should cash in on Frank Lampard this summer.

Chelsea Bid For Daniel Alves | Barcelona To Bid For Lampard

Here it is - all that you wanted and you always wanted.

Chelsea have made a 14m pound bid for Sevilla right back Daniel Alves. Though we we seem to have some competition with a small club called Real Madrid, reports say that we are about to clinch it. This could be a cash deal or a deal that includes Khalid. Either way, I’d be so relieved.

Chelsea FC 07/08 Team Lineup

I’m a die-hard Chelsea fan I have been destroyed by the loss of both the Premiership title and (again) the lack of a champions league trophy to add to the trophy cabinet. But I’m far from blaming this on Mourinho. I think I speak for every Chelsea fan when I say he is the ONLY manager for the job. But i believe that Chelsea have to make some serious changes to the playing staff.

I am getting worried about all the speculation about Lamps and Terry leaving because without them I believe that Chelsea would only be scraping a UEFA cup spot. Even if their contracts are tied up in the next few weeks we need to make changes.

Here is a starting line-up that i believe that would win Chelsea the league back and would finally win us that highly coveted Champions League trophy:

Lampard attacked by Tottenham fan (video)

The match itself was quite pedestrian (apart from THAT goal by Shevchenko, who’s on a roll), so I’ll skip the boring match report (you can hit ChelseaBlog or BBC for it) and get down to the real business - vidoes.

Frank Lampard vs Steven Gerrard - Who’s Better?

These two marvelous midfield Maestros would waltz their way into any team in Europe, but are both inconsistent on the international scene.

Following on from Ed Harrison’s argument that these two superstars of the premiership should not be guaranteed a starting place in the England line up, which one of these players would YOU pick should McClaren leave one out to give the team more balance?

Lampard and Gerrard can no longer be automatic choices for England

Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard should no longer be considered as automatic choices for England’s midfield. While their performances for their clubs are usually first rate that has never been the case when they play for England.

Surprise - England’s problem was not just the previous manager

It is fashionable to round up on Eriksson and blame him for all of England’s problems.

Steve McClaren used this card to full-tilt by dumping David Beckham and then going on a charm offensive where he emphasised himself as the anti-thesis of Eriksson - emotional, flexible, in control of his players, passionate about England.

Thing is, all that is bullshit if he can’t get England to play well.

The press ‘campaign’ against Frank Lampard

Chelsea fan Soupdragon takes particular offense at the vitriol thrown in Lampard’s direction by Chelsea-haters - who seem to be everywhere, especially in the media.

Are you so desperately concerned about the economic affairs of other clubs that it reduces your enjoyment of “the beautiful game?

Do you condemn the ‘classless behaviour’ of certain teams unconditionally, whilst justifying similar behaviour by your own club’s staff with equal vigour?

Do you care more about the critical coverage of a player’s autobiography than their value as a footballer to your national team?

If so, you’re either a sports journalist (Ed: where journalist = scum) or one of a billion disillusioned fans.
