MLS First Weekend Preview and MLS Fantasy Football

Soccer season in the USA is almost here. We’ve had some exciting times already, with both DC United and Houston Dynamo advancing to the semi finals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup, the Los Angeles Galaxy completing successful tours of Australia/New Zealand and Asia, FC Dallas traveling to Brazil, and the United States U-23 team qualifying for the Beijing Olympics later this summer after missing out on Athens in 2004.

On to the first set of fixtures this weekend:

SquadGod - Monthly Games

SquadGod.com a.k.a one of Soccerlens’s advertising partners and also the ultimate fantasy football site, today added a monthly game option to its existing gameplay formats. SquadGod advertises itself as the only fully customisable fantasy football game available, and now lets players and fantasy managers set-up games running in a monthly format, allowing players to field a new team every month.

Monthly games work exactly like standard, season-long games, but at the end of every month your points re-set back to zero, and you get given 11 free transfers to select an entirely new team for the month ahead. Not only is this great for mid-season leagues, and players who got off to bad start to the season, but also it offers website owners, football bloggers and sports related media businesses the opportunity to set-up their own leagues with monthly winners and prizes.

SquadGod Week 3

A quick look at SL fantasy football and after the first month or so, I think it’s clear to say that Taron, a United fan who picked his team from clubs he hated, is comfortably top of the table, and he’s 6th overall in the SquadGod standings (so you don’t win an ipod mate but you’re in the running for there big prize at the end of the season).

SquadGod Week 2: Suck it up, it’ll get better

Welcome to another edition of our Soccerlens Fantasy Football news update, and the headline just about says it all - if you’re sucking (or more appropriately, if your team is sucking) ass at the moment, be strong and keep working at it, things will get better.

2 days left until the transfer deadline for Week 3’s games, so let’s get this started and get you some bargain buys if you’re interested in swapping out players.

Soccerlens Fantasy Football - Update

I’ll make this quick:

1) If you haven’t already, sign up for the Soccerlens SquadGod group. There’s no ‘deadline’ (thanks Patrick for clearing it up) but there IS a deadline each week to ‘finalise’ your squad (Saturday 1135 GMT, or something) and quite frankly if you’re not involved from the start it will seriously hurt your chances to win the prizes (assuming that’s why you’re joining, of course :P ).

2) We’re at 129 members, and need 200+ to activate the $1k prize. So hurry up!

3) If you’re in two minds about who to pick in your squad, here are some tips (after the jump):

Soccerlens Fantasy Football - Win a minimum of $1,000

I almost didn’t run this, but then I saw that the most popular group at SquadGod had under 300 members and I thought - can SL beat them?

I’m hoping you guys can, so please hop on over to the Soccerlens group at SquadGod, join and get started with your fantasy football team.

And yes, there really are $1,000 and £10,000 prizes up for grabs and there are only 2 days left till the signup deadline, so hurry up.
