Keano’s new record

Can you guys help me with this one?

I think that Roy Keane’s achievement – of winning a league title in his first managerial season – must be some sort of football record. If it isn’t, it must be something special. Yes, it’s just the ‘Coca-Cola Championship’ (or the Second Division for the purists) but a title is a title.

I check Jose Mourinho’s managerial record and apparently Jose didn’t win a league title for the first couple of years.

Does this mean that Roy Keane is more special than Jose Mourinho? I don’t think so, but you’re welcome to your opinion icon smile Keanos new record / Sacrificing whales / debunking the Tevez rumours / United win the Premiership

Sacrificing a whale

Before the Champions League semifinals I talked to Hasan about Manchester United’s chances of beating Milan at San Siro and we both agreed that it would take a special performance from United to make it happen. We thought United could do it, but being biased I didn’t think it was a fair thing to go by our own judgements.

So I almost talked Hasan into sacrificing a whale as offering to the footballing gods. I figured that we were asking for something pretty big (a CL and Prem double) so a whale out to do it.

It didn’t quite work out as planned. No whale, no Athens. Coincidence? I can guarantee that Liverpool and Milan fans are dedicated enough to sacrifice virgins to the altar of football – a whale would be chump change.

Tevez to Liverpool

Why to Liverpool? The only thread of reason that ties Tevez to Liverpool is Javier Mascherano’s earlier move to Liverpool. That’s not going to be good enough if Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester United decide to step in and buy Tevez.

It’s idle speculation at the moment. Tevez could be moved on to another European club (Barca? Milan? Madrid?) or he could go to any of the top four – Liverpool are not a iron-clad deal, and suggesting that Tevez will move to Liverpool because of Mascherano is like saying that Defoe will go to Manchester United because of Carrick. It’s a ridiculous connection.

Apart from Mascherano, it’s the same old ‘need a striker’ / ‘have lots of money’ story.

Manchester United win the Premiership

Oh, and as I write this, the Arsenal-Chelsea game just finished 1-1. As they cut away to Mourinho complaining about penalties and injuries, I think it’s fair to say that Rob Smyth, I owe you a bitch slap (a kick in the nads will do though) (read this and this for the backstory).

The BBC has an interesting run-down of the title chase.

And United and Everton have been cleared of any wrongdoing in the Howard-no-show incident as well. So it was a verbal agreement instead of a contractual one?

I realised I couldn’t do a celebration here without breaking into a ‘i told you so’ jig, so I’ll let someone else do the writeup.

Well done United. You’ve truly undergone a tremendous season, probably the best I’ve seen from United and I’m happy that you’ve beaten Chelsea to the title, though they too deserve their due for giving you a close run for your money right to the very end. You wouldn’t of deserved to have fallen at the final hurdle.

I just hope Arsenal can mount a better title challenge attempt next season.
