Former Sheffield United staff still making laughable claims against West Ham
I talked earlier about the settlement between West Ham and Sheffield United and how misguided the focus on it was – but comments from Warnock and the legal counsel representing Sheffield United players who both want to sue West Ham for damages take things to a whole new level.
Here’s a manager and a group of players who want compensation for their inability to win a game at home. It’s laughable. When Sheffield United complained one could make the argument (tenuous though it may be) that English football needed to make an example out of West Ham to deter clubs from making similar mistakes. Never mind that the compensation was not demanded from the people who had made the mistakes but the people who came in after them and the club and players and fans who had done nothing wrong.
The point has been made over the last two seasons. Sheffield United have the money, West Ham, lacking funds, will need to sell players or will be sold, and now the farce must stop and English football must move on from assigning blame to addressing the larger issues.

“Never mind that the compensation was not demanded from the people who had made the mistakes but the people who came in after them and the club and players and fans who had done nothing wrong.”
Ah, you mean like Scott Duxbury who was the man at fault before, during and after and is still in position now?
Your headline isn’t factually correct. Sheffield United aren’t making any claims, they have settled their dispute with West Ham. Their former manager and, as I understand it, former players are considering legal action. Doesn’t make such a snappy headline I know, but don’t let that stand in the way of considered journalism.
the whole thing is right out of proportion. if west ham didnt use tevez in the last game of the season against man u, they would have drew 0 – 0, meaning west ham would stay up.
so this is just the players trying to make even more money, despite earning stupid amounts of cash to kick a ball around already, even in a credit crunch. how they can try and sue when they lost the game anyway, which is their own failure.
plus tevez is at man u now. on a none perminant contract. meaning tevez is either currently owned by west ham or he is still on a third party deal and man u are using him to help win the league, twice, and should be sued for stupid amounts of money by chelsea. and how leeds, wigan, bolton, fulham and even liverpool have all hinted at compensation just shows how greedy football has become rather than being a real sport.
if the premiereship decides its worth a 5mil ban then thats the rules.
simple as
fair point, fixed the headline to reflect the truth of the matter. as for scott duxbury, the blame lies with him, not with the club or the fans, made my arguments on this in previous articles.
just read this article. it’s clear enough

My question is
If Tevez was cleared by the FA to play at the end of the season, should Sheffield United have sued the FA.
Its about time we got back to playing the game and keep the courts out of football. As far as I am concerned, Warnock is afailed manager who resigned, was not sacked, despite the numerous mistakes he made whilst getting his club relegated. The players are even worse; it was in the hands right up until the last game. All they had to do was win at home. Warnock & the Sheffield players should take a long hard look at themselves and get back to playing the game.
Sheff utd now have the cash the say they missed out on. Sheff utd players are paid by Sheff Utd. Therefore It is Sheff Utd who should pay their players any lost earnings.
A case of Warnock letting himself down again. The guy’s a loose cannon. Who’d want him at their club?
