Wayne Rooney claims PFA Player of the year and Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year winner Luis Suarez is better than Lionel Messi and is only behind his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.
Well, he didn’t say exactly that Ronaldo and Suarez are better than Messi, but his answer to a question, check below, suggests so.
The Liverpool striker has been in brilliant form this season, scoring 31 goals and assisted another 12. Suarez also claimed the PFA Player of the year, Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year, Liverpool fans Player of the Year, Liverpool Players’ Player of the Year and Liverpool Goal of the Season. He is also favourite to win the FTBpro PFA Fan Player of the Season.
Asked who was currently the best player in the world, Rooney told a Samsung Q&A session: “Cristiano Ronaldo and probably Luis Suarez a close second.”
Luis Suarez has repaid the Liverpool fans by brilliant on field performances this season after last summer transfer fiasco around him. Reports suggest he is still on Madrid’s radar and he might make a summer move. Though chances are less, as Liverpool have booked their place in the Champions League next season and only a ridiculous offer might tempt Liverpool to sell their star striker.
Suarez has scored 31 goals this season, equalling the record held by Alan Shearer and Cristiano Ronaldo, despite missing the first five games of the season.
Rooney also revealed he would want to bring Ronaldo back to Manchester United and he is one of the best players he has played with.
“The best player I’ve ever played with is between two – Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Scholes,” Rooney added.
It was hardly a surprise to any football follower that Rooney will always vouch for Ronaldo, as the duo forged a great partnership, during the Portugal international’s time at Old Trafford.
Also, it is pleasing to see Rooney giving Luis Suarez the respect he deserves as a player. But, strangely, he omitted Lionel Messi from his list, when the Argentine is arguably considered as the best player of this generation.
