Arsenal’s first goal was offside, Liverpool didn’t deserve to score

Arsenal moved smoothly to the top of the Premier League and Right Result table with an impressive win at Bolton Wanderers.

All did not go according to script at their former bogey ground though….

Emmanuel Eboue netted his first league goal for the Gunners but the Ivorian’s equaliser should have been ruled out for offside.

Arsenal still did more than enough to win, unlike title challengers Liverpool.

It seemed that Reds legend Steven Gerrard had converted his 100th goal for his only club in only the second minute against Stoke City.

However, the goal was disallowed by referee Andre Marriner – a decision described as a massive mistake by Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez.

Closer inspection by the Right Result team reveals that – in the referee’s opinion – the goal could legitimately be ruled out under the ‘interfering with an opponent’ criteria of the offside law.

Who cares if it was offside or not – we have had plenty go against us when they were not offside – so shit happens.

“Closer inspection by the Right Result team reveals that – in the referee’s opinion – the goal could legitimately be ruled out under the ‘interfering with an opponent’ criteria of the offside law.” That would require a Liverpool player to be offside… surely… please enlighten us as to who your illustrious “team” thinks could have reasonably (or even “unreasonably”?) been offside. The replays all show that when the ball was kicked (the test…?) neither of the two LFC players in front of the GK were offside – nor were any other LFC players. Yes, Kuyt chased the ball in – but he simply covered 2 yards (belatedly to chase the ball into the net) AFTER the ball was kicked. I could not see any other possible interpretation… Or is there a trick to your observation? As the referee’s opinion was obviously WRONG (but then he was very poorly positioned to judge it…) So is your “Right Result” that he is allowed to make a mistake in such difficult circumstances??? (surely not as that would make your table a joke) … or that you think that Kuyt (or someone else?) WAS offside??? Have you looked at the replay? Please enlighten us… or don’t waste our time.

Lennon was also fouled and a pen would have been scored for Spurs, or is this just goals?

As pens should be counted surely?

In 2005 The International Football Association Board agreed a new Decision in Law 11 that being ‘nearer to his opponent’s goal line’ meant that “any part of his head, body or feet is nearer to his opponents’ goal line than both the ball and the second last opponent. The arms are not included in this definition.” – From wiki.

Clearly the liverpool player who ran across the goalkeeper, blocking his view when the ball was coming in, was offside. Good call by the referee.

Arsenal’s first goal was definitely offside. But how legal was Bolton’s first goal????
Almunia collected the ball and Nolan fell on him and Almunia lost the ball. The referee gives a corner. Any other team would have got a goal kick. Davies places his hands on Toure’s shoulders, jumps up and heads and scores. Any other time, it would have been a foul, not a goal. Arsenal fully deserved the goal and the victory. And lastly, Bolton did try one last dirty trick (much like what most of the other teams turn to against Arsenal and unsurprisingly go unpunished) with Davies tackle on Clichy. Still the Gunners were too good for them………
