Woodward replaced David Gill as the top boss at Old Trafford last summer as the latter ended his term at United along with Sir Alex Ferguson. David Moyes replaced the Red Devils’ legendary manager and the former Everton boss along with Woodward failed to make any impact during the last summer transfer window.
Scholes believes Woodward has a lot to prove in this summer window and newly appointed manager Louis van Gaal will need recruitment to turn things at Old Trafford. He has also suggested that United should make an approach for Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos.
“Edward Woodward has an awful lot to prove this time that he’s good enough at his job. He has to bring the players in that the new manager wants. It’s obvious that last year he didn’t manage to do that. If he doesn’t, we are not going to get anywhere near the top,” Scholes wrote in his Blog on Paddy Power.
“The first player I’d bring in is Toni Kroos. He’s a top-class central midfield player but United need five or six to get anywhere near the top of the Premier League again.”
Wayne Rooney will be the key player to lead England’s attacking front for the World Cup in Brazil. He has gone without scoring a goal in the last eight World Cup matches.
Scholes believes the summer event in Brazil will be a stage where Rooney has to prove himself if he has to be labelled as one of the best footballers in the world.
“The England management team has to get the best from Wayne Rooney for the World Cup. He’s got a brilliant scoring record for his country with 38 goals in 89 internationals, but he’s played in eight World Cup games without a goal. You expect more of him,” the former United midfielder said
“If Wayne is going to be one of the best footballers in the world, this World Cup is where he has to produce,” Scholes explained.
