Mourinho: Some big guys never won CL, I won it twice
Ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League tie with Galatasaray tonight, Jose Mourinho, speaking in an interview with Adidas (to promote the Adidas gamedayplus app), has said he feels privileged to have won the Champions League more than once.
Mourinho, who has won the Champions League twice in his career – with Porto and Inter Milan – said that he still has the ambition and desire to win the trophy again, but feels under no pressure to do so,
“There are some big guys in the game that have never won it once – I won it twice. I can feel privileged by that.” said the Chelsea boss,
“I don’t feel pressure, I simply just think that if you never win, it you want to win it for the first time, if you win it once you want to win it twice, if you win twice you want to win it three times,”
“I think this is the basic thing of the game. So no pressure, not at all. Nothing has changed in terms of my ambition and my desire.”
Mourinho spoke about his love-affair with Chelsea, saying it stems from the culmination of several factors like the appeal of English football, his first time experience abroad as a manager, and the deep bond he shares with the fans.
The Portuguese boss reflected that once a team advances to the round of 16 stage, one can easily identify 3-5 teams that are clear favourites to win the competition, depending on a favourable draw,
“Chelsea wants to win and I want also to win so we are going to play and to fight and to build the team and to try and do our best this season and try to be stronger and stronger until the cup arrives for the second time.”
Mourinho adds that he is building this Chelsea team for the future but also acknowledges the importances of senior players as well. Check out the interview below.
