Marouane Fellaini could move to Napoli

Manchester United new manager Louis van Gaal on his first press conference said he will take a hard look at the existing players, before making any decision about selling/delving into the transfer market.

And within one week in charge, he is burdened with an onerous task of rebuilding the ‘unbalanced & broken’ United squad. If anything his words indicate is that the Dutchman is likely to sculpt the squad according to his own taste.

According to reports from The Times, United are looking to offload David Moyes’ signing Marouane Fellaini, who has been attracting strong interest from Napoli. The 26-year-old joined Old Trafford for £27.5m from Everton, but had struggled to make any significant impact. Early this month, Italian newspaper Corriere dello sport, reported that Fiorentina had set their sights on the Belgian.

James Ducker of The times claim that United are pushing for a sale” and are looking to recoup at least £15m for the midfielder. Napoli however are looking to take him on a season-long-loan deal, before making the move permanent.

Fellaini didn’t travel in the United’s pre-season tour of the United States, due to his involvement in the World Cup, and only to returned training at the club’s Carrington base yesterday with compatriot Adnan Januzaj.

Former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is looking to make the best use of Fellaini’s physical strength, while is looking to tempt him with the Champions League football offer. United are also likely to listen to offers for Shinji kagawa, Nani and Anderson.

The Times claim that Fellaini and two of his representatives have held talks with Riccardo Bigon, the Napoli sporting director, at the Sheraton Brussels Airport hotel over the weekend. However, Fellaini’s camp has denied such alleged negotiations.
