Manchester United target Gabriel Jesus close to joining Manchester City

It seems like Manchester City have won the tug of war with derby rivals Manchester United over the signing of young Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus.

Jesus, who has been selected to represent his country at the Rio Olympics, is close to joining Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. He said in a recent interview to Fox Sports Brazil (translated by our in-house Spanish / Portuguese speaker Manuel Traquete):

“My future is sorted. my family, my representativestives, everyone at Palmeiras know where I want to go but for now I’m focused on winning the gold medal with the national team. The deal is almost done but now I’m totally focused on the national team”

The player reportedly has a clause in his contract where he can join either of Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona for €24m. However, City moved in quickly and had tabled a massive €32m bid for the youngster last week.

Manchester United were willing to pay €38m for the Brazilian and reports emerged Jose Mourinho would personally call the player to convince him to join Old Trafford.

It seems, however, the player has chosen to join City instead, although he hasn’t mentioned the club where he wants to go. In all probability, City will permit him to stay with Palmeiras and play the rest of the season with the Brazilian club.
