After the encouraging display in the 3-0 victory over Olympiakos, there may be more good news on the way for Manchester United fans with ‘The Metro’ reporting today that the club are in advanced talks with Everton over a proposed move for Seamus Coleman.

The Irish full back has flourished this year and has become one of the outstanding defenders in the Premier League, with his penchant for moving forward leading to the 25 year-old netting seven goals from a mere 31 starts; an outstanding return for a defender.

Manchester United manager, David Moyes, brought Coleman to Goodison Park during his time as Everton manager for a bargain £60,000 five years ago. The amount that United will have to pay to convince Everton to release the player is rumoured to be some £15m, but the price may be even higher, either way guaranteeing the Toffees a massive profit on their original investment.

All that said, Everton manager Roberto Martinez will not be enamoured by the prospect of losing one of his star performers of the season, and rumours of new contract talks that appeared earlier this week seem to be closer to the mark.

Ironically, although Coleman had been developing well under Moyes’ tutelage, it seems to have been the influence and style of play deployed by Martinez that has made Coleman such a hot property.

The right back position has been a problem for United for a while, with the Brazilian Rafael looking acceptable rather than compelling.

Getting a transfer agreed for Coleman ahead of the transfer window would be a massive boost for Moyes. Not only would it give a lift to the club and fans, it would demonstrate that the lessons of last summer and the poor transfer window performance will have been learnt.
