Manchester United to beat Man City for €50m defender?

This summer is going to be massive for Manchester United. A new permanent manager is expected to be in charge, and he would be given a hefty transfer budget to bring in quality players at Old Trafford.

While bolstering the midfield remains the top priority, focus should be laid on bringing in quality players in defence. Skipper Nemanja Vidic is set to leave the club while the future of Rio Ferdinand is also doubtful.

The Guardian’s Daniel Taylor recently tweeted about United’s interest in Porto’s highly rated defender Eliaquim Mangala.

Portugal newspaper A Bola however feels it’s very likely that Mangala will be playing at one of the Manchester clubs next season.

According to this report, United might have the edge over their derby rivals, because City need to comply with the financial fair play regulations, which might curb their spending this summer.

Porto own 56,67% of his economic rights while the player has a €50m buy-out clause. Should United trigger his release clause to land the Frenchman?

  1. bring Mangala together with william Carvalho from portugal. Kroos and reus from germany.
Europe will be sat ablaze by United.

  2. in these days man city are going to be like real madrid in the case of have many fantastic players.
i think if manutd wants to be in a 3th firsth teams, rayan giggs should make a new Decision for manutd.such as buying world class players like c.ronaldo,,,messi,,,?

  3. we need quick players.let rafa be the right back, mut humels and mangala in central defence, shaw left back.pedro in left wing, hulk in right wing, carick, mata, kroos in the mid.rooney up front.then van p,kagawa, valencia, jones in sub.

  4. What a moron, yes City need to comply with the FFP BUT, Manchester City will still go ut this season and spend between 50 and 100 million while sell a few fringe players to the lower the outgoings.

Mark my words Mangala is going nowhere but to Manchester City, City will improve this in 2014/15. United have no hope in the world and no one big will join you without Champions League football. lol
