Manchester City have unveiled their new away kit in Hong Kong as a part of the pre-season tour, in collaboration with Nike for the upcoming 2013-14 season, where latest technologies have been used to full effect while the new-design honours the club’s rich history and its founding fathers.

The new away shirt is primarily black in colour, with the club’s crest, Nike swoosh and the sponsor’s logo are all in gold, designed to reflect the club’s glowing success in recent years.

The away-shirt features a grandfather collar, a long placket and a stand at the back. Likewise, the away shorts are black in colour, as also the socks, but it has a dark charcoal band at the top.

The design of the kit is reminiscent of the kits worn by the club’s founding fathers. The club founded in 1980 as St Mark’s, became Gorton AFC in 1884, and then Ardwick AFC between 1887 and 1894. The colors represent Gorton AFC, who played in black.

Nike’s trademark technology of manufacturing kits with the use of recycled polyester – 13 recycled water-bottles that are finely chopped into flakes and then further melted down and spun into fabric – is used here with the purpose of reducing energy consumption by up to 30% compared to manufacturing virgin polyester.

The kit just weighs 150 grams, which is 23% lighter than previous kits and the fabric uses Nike Dri-FIT technology to draw sweat away from the body, to keep players cool and dry depending upon the weather conditions.

A Nike-Pro Combat baselayer – range of long-sleeve and short-sleeve tops made of sweat-wicking fabric – is supplied along with the kit which will be worn underneath the match-day kit, will offer players greater comfort and impact protection.
