City failed with a bid to land Fernando and Eliaquim Mangala from Porto last month, but will surely return for the pair come the summer, with Fernando seemingly set on a move.

The 26-year-old has been the subject of increasing interest from the Premier League, with Liverpool and Manchester United also said to have been in the race to sign the player last month.

According to the Mirror, Manchester City are in pole position to snap up the midfielder when he leaves the Estádio do Dragão at the end of the season.

Fernando’s current contract with Porto is set to expire in the summer, making him a free agent, and able to choose for which club he will next ply his trade.

Nicknamed the Octopus due to his leggy style of play, and ability to latch onto opponents, Fernando has been at Porto since 2007, and has been a permanent feature in the club’s midfield this season.

If City do get their man this summer, can you just imagine the difficulties that commentators will face with the similar looking Fernando and Fernandinho in the heart of the midfield!

What do you think? Should City go and snap up Fernando for free this summer? Let me know in the comments below…

  1. Go get Fenando in the summer pelligrin,we need a strong bench ,a strong one like What chelsea have, dont listen to Mourinho saying city have best squad,No,city have best first 11 bt weak bench, mourinho just want to weaken city so that he wil dominate, come on Pellegrin we support you,buy fenando and Kroos ,Mangala and play Yaya in attack with two holding midfielders, can be fenando and fenadinho or kroos, then l think city need another attacking midfielder who play individual footbal to overcome tight defence and he must have great pace and strength, come on
