Louis van Gaal has revealed Manchester United will only sign a player if he can bring a balance to the team.
The 20-times English champions have already confirmed the signing of Memphis Depay after agreeing a deal with PSV Eindhoven for the winger. The Old Trafford club needs one point to seal a place in top four, which will see them return to the Champions League after a year’s absence.
United chief executive Ed Woodward has already confirmed Red Devils will be “active” in the transfer window as he wants the club to challenge in all competitions next season. The Premier League giants are looking to further strengthen their squad and Van Gaal admitted that his side are constantly at targets at every position.
“It’s not a question of how big or the number of players in the squad, it’s how the balance is. When you have for every position two equal-levelled players, then I’m happy.”
“You have three parties and the most important party is always the player, I have already said in this conference so I cannot repeat myself, I don’t want to repeat myself. We have a very good scouting commission for every position.”
United are linked with Borussia Dortmund’s midfielder Ilkay Gundogan and captain Mats Hummels. The Bundesliga club have already confirmed they are likely to lose two of their star players in the summer transfer window.
With two more games left in this season, it is going to be an exciting summer transfer window for United and their fans. However, their major concern will be the future of David De Gea, which still looks uncertain at Old Trafford.
