Liverpool still hoping to secure Mohamed Salah ahead of Chelsea

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is refusing to throw in the towel over Basel winger Mohamed Salah, despite Chelsea announcing yesterday that they had agreed a deal for the attacker.

Salah was heavily linked with a move to Anfield this month, but the impending sale of Juan Mata to Manchester United prompted Chelsea to make a last ditch effort to hijack the deal, a move that seems to have been successful.

But Liverpool will not back down so easily, says Rodgers, who is willing the club to do everything they can to ensure that they don’t miss out on the promising attacker,

“I’m not sure whether that deal is definitely done yet or not,” Rodgers told talkSPORT,

“The young guy is a good player. We have tracked him for a number of months, the club has been watching him and I have been to watch him.

“It is one where the agent of the player and the clubs were talking but if the deal can’t be done, the deal can’t be done. I know the club has been working very hard to get players in. I’ll leave that to them and see how they get on.”

The 21-year-old Egyptian has scored an impressive 17 goals in 27 games for his country, and has caught the eye this season with a number of exciting performances, including scoring twice in two games against his potential future employers, Chelsea.

What do you think? Can Liverpool snatch him back at the last minute? Let me know in the comments below…

  1. Brendan is just saying that out of utter shame. Liverpool can only get a player who lesser teams want to buy like aspas who Swansea wanted. I don’t think they r gonna make cpl because spurs have a better squad and man utd with mata will b a different team and no cpl mean no Suarez next year n who could blame him for wanting to fucking leave.

  2. The hope of landing salah is becoming to elaborate and unsure, why all these? If liverpool really need this player, they should go for him, getting him for 12-13 million euro is not much nw.. Let look willian, erinkson, and so many like that. That was hijack from liverpool due to lack of spending.. Will liverpool these to pass them also? This kind player shoudnt be allow to pass by cos it gona cause a big problem later.. Please we need realistic player in liverpool squad, I will appriciate I has a fan of this great club to good transfer cos am sick and tired of unrealistic transfers.. I won’t want a situation whereby at d end of day we will go for unwanted and un useful player again.. If the deal of salah can still be done.. Please liverpool should make it fast.. We need those reinforcement..

  3. Rodgers should stop giving us hope, is it 12m you can’t pay for an attacker who is only 21 yrs old? Yet u pain 17m plus for a defender of sahko,.9m plus for a flop like aspas..since the start of the winter window, you told us talks has been going on,for how long before you get a deal done for a 12m player who is worth 20m,just because he’s an african player.jose you are the man,no time for nonsense or plenty talks, you know what business is all about, please try and wrap up the deal asap.Lfc aint serious.with middle class coach that can’t even attract world class players..cos you’ve won nothing and know nothing about title winning ..mthwwww.

  4. It’s a surprize that liverpool will allow chelsea to hijack the promising and talented player from us………I don’t believe that liverpool we miss out of the young man

  5. No! It’s already done deal with Chelsea. Liverpool can only blame them self for waiting this long to sign Salah!!!

  6. Ayres is petrified to speculate and go the extra few quid needed to land marquee players. Far too cautious, always dithering, improvements have been made but it’s still not good em ought to challenge for a top four slot.

  7. we dont need months to sighn a player…clearly we are not ready to buy
