Sevilla Confirms Liverpool Interest for Alberto Moreno
Sevilla president Pepe Castro has revealed Liverpool are interested in signing their left-back Alberto Moreno this summer transfer window.
According to the Spanish newspaper Marca, the 21-year-old is edging closer towards completing a move to Anfield as he is set to be Brendan Rodgers’ second signing after securing the services of Rickie Lambert from Southampton.
However, the La Liga chief revealed Liverpool are yet to convert their interest into a formal approach.
“It’s true that there is interest from Liverpool but we are waiting for that interest to convert into a reality, because at this moment in time there isn’t (a formal bid),” Castro told Estadio Deportivo.
Should the Reds table a bid in bringing Moreno to Merseyside, it will see Liverpool cough around €22m for his services. If the Anfield outfit manage to seal a deal for the Spain international, it will see them strengthened their back four, which has been leaking goals during the 2013-14 season.
Another report from Marca suggested the left-back was keen on joining the newly crowned Champions League winners Real Madrid. However, if Liverpool land Moreno, it will be a statement of intent as they will beat the Spanish capital club in signing Sevilla star.
Rodgers has Luis Enrique as the first choice left-back at Anfield. However, long-term injury forced the former Swansea boss deploy right-back Jon Flanagan fill his shoes and the 21-year-old has excelled for the Reds in that position.
The addition of Moreno will strengthen Liverpool’s squad, especially as they return to the Champions League next season.
