Gerrard denies rift with Rodgers as Liverpool offer extension

Club captain Steven Gerrard denied rumours of a rift with manager Brendan Rodgers amidst reports of a contract extension.

The reds registered their first victory in a while, against Stoke City, this weekend. Glen Johnson’s second half header gave the reds their fifth win of the season and sent them to thirteenth place in the table, five points behind Manchester United, who currently occupy the final Champions League spot in the table.

Along with lackluster displays, team selections around Anfield have been debatable this season. A poor start to the season has brought a lot of criticism upon the manager and the players. While there has been calls to drop new signings such as Dejan Lovren and Mario Balotelli, Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has been criticised heavily for his below par performances as well.

Club legend, Gerrard was dropped for the glamorous Bernabeu tie earlier in November and was benched against Stoke this weekend. Gerrard’s contract situation and the manager’s decision to drop him recent has fuelled speculations that there has been a falling out between the duo and the manager does not see Gerrard as a part of his future plans anymore.

However, Gerrard reacted swiftly to crush any speculations, as the club captain took to Instagram to express his opinion on the issue.

“Just to set the record straight, talk of a fall-out between us two is nonsense #together #solid #ynwa,” he wrote on his Instagram account.

There has been a lot of talk about his current contract situation and whether the club are going to renew the deal. The former England captain confirmed his desire to continue playing football last month and stated that he might have to look for another adventure if his boyhood club decided against renewing his contract.

According to Mirror football, a Liverpool spokesman stated earlier that a formal contract offer will made to the player, and the club captain is willing to continue playing for the Anfield outfit.

Further the manager confirmed earlier in his press conference today that Gerrard has been offered a new deal.

“Steven Gerrard and his representatives have been offered a contract here and at this moment in time thats where it’s at”, he said.

While the club captain has failed to perform at his best so far, he still remains an integral part of the club and his experience could be vital in turning around Liverpool’s season.
