Franz Beckenbauer: Pep Guardiola could by tempted by Manchester United

Pep Guardiola has yet to sign a new contract at Bayern Munich which has sparked wide speculations on his future.

The German champions are hopeful the former Barcelona manager will put pen to papers, but that might not happen at the end of the season.

The Spaniard’s three-year-deal with Bayern expires at the end of the season, and he is set to make a decision on an extension before the end of 2015.

Guardiola has been strongly linked with both Manchester City and United and it is highly likely he will end up in either of the two clubs.

Franz Beckenbauer, the Bayern Munich honorary president, said recently that Guardiola “may view Old Trafford as the best option” for his career should he chose to leave Germany

“Pep is interesting for every top club in the world,” Beckenbauer said. “That’s just normal.

“He can pick his club — and in terms of popularity Manchester United might be the No. 1 worldwide.”

Guardiola will be an ideal fit at Old Trafford but United will need to make an early move to secure his signature. Louis van Gaal has a contract till 2017 and United have no intensions to sack him before his tenure ends.

In such a scenario, will Guardiola wait for one more year to secure a move to Old Trafford? Bayern will want him to sign a long term deal rather than a year extension on his contract, which means, either he has to commit his future at the German club or leave elsewhere in the summer. In that case, Manchester City will have a better chance to sign the Spaniard.
