Fiorentina want Arsenal’s Eboue plus cash for 21m rated Felipe Melo

Is Melo worth 21m?

Fiorentina have asked for Emmanuel Eboue plus cash for Arsenal to bring Confederations Cup winner Felipe Melo to the Emirates.

Felipe Melo recently signed a one-year contract extension at Fiorentina – the main purpose of which now seems to be the addition of a £21m release clause to help La Viola as much money as possible for the Brazilian midfielder.

Club statement:

“Arsenal is the only club to have come close to the sum established by the release clause. Fiorentina in turn proposed to Arsenal a reduction in the amount by including right-back Emmanuel Eboue.”

Melo joined the Viola last summer from Spanish side Almeria in a transfer deal worth €8m. He made 29 league starts for Fiorentina last season and built his reputation as a hard-tackling midfielder, picking up 17 yellow and 3 red cards.

If Wenger agrees to the deal, Mello will bring much-needed experience and solidity to a weak Arsenal midfield and coupled with the signing of Thomas Vermaelen and those of Nasri and Arshavin last season points to Wenger slowly but surely bringing in quality young players with decent experience under their belts.

Arsenal fans would not lose much sleep over Eboue leaving the club (for a variety of reasons, with his poor on-the-pitch attitude being a major part of the problem), but will Wenger be willing to pay 10m or more plus Eboue for a central midfielder?

No where near worth 21 million in my opinion. I just havent seen much from him that would justify that amount in a tranfer.

Melo in Eboue out, is that the deal? OK, I would have proferred the other Emannuel to be on his way, however…..

Salary caps are on the agenda and so they should be. Terry to Manchester City on 300,000 pounds a week.I will state categorically that no Premier League club can afford these kind of salaries based on the clubs cash flow, this money has to come from another source and is invested as a method of reducing taxation. Make sense? Capital investment from overseas should be vetted. It may be, and probably is, legal money from oil etc. but it it not earned by playing football. Change the rules and let`s get a level playing field.

Melo would be a good signing, but why don’t we go for someone with a lot of experience, like Senna or Alonso or Makelele or even Cambiasso? We need to get some experience in our squad if we are to compete for any titles next year.

Arsenalfan, nice line up, but I think we are much suited to playing in 4-4-2 with:

    —————–Almunia————–
    Sagna—-Vermealon—–Toure—-Clichy
    Walcott—-Fabregas—-Melo—-Arshavin

This is a key signing for Wenger, the one he really needs to get right. If he does Arsenal could be a real threat next season.

Looks like a good player but the displinary record is definitely a worry.

this would be a great signing, but the price is too inflated…maybe for 13-15m…eboue is a good squad player to have and should not go in the deal…arsenal need to build their squad for all competitions

A player worth 8m last season and just for playing in the confederations cup, he’s now worth 21m, i doubt if wenger would agree with that kind of a deal i think he(wenger) should offload silvestre, go directly to brazil and find a hard tackling midfielder, also we need players like louis fabiano in the squad what do you think
