Eto’o goes to - Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool or Manchester United?
I’m hoping to get a good discussion going on the chances of Eto’o going to each club - please let everyone know what you think in the comments section at the end of this article.
By now, Samuel Eto’o has been linked with Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. Liverpool because they have money, Chelsea because they have money and Arsenal because they have Thierry Henry. Strangely enough, Manchester United (the club needing a striker the most) are not mentioned, even though they’ve been linked with Deco and Xavi (the later rumour started by fans themselves) on several occasions.
The ‘problems’ with Eto’o are not new - as Myles said the other day at ANR what we’re seeing these days is a public face of festering unrest in the Barca dressing room since last season. Ronaldinho’s cult status, his privileges, Eto’o ego and the fact that Ronny’s getting fat all combine to create a strong internal divide. Much as I’d like Barcelona to return to their pomp and play their brand of football again Eto’o is not a man to compromise.
So he will probably leave - and if he does, he could come to the Premiership’s top 4 clubs. He’d start at all four clubs, without a doubt.
Chelsea’s chances with Eto’o
Can Chelsea accomodate Drogba, Shevchenko and Eto’o in the same lineup, one that plays 4-5-1 much better than it does 4-4-2? Eto’o and Drogba in attack would be a frightening proposition, but it would consign Sheva permanently to the bench. What does Roman want?
Arsenal’s chances with Eto’o
On the surface Arsenal hold the ace of spades - Henry - in this transfer circle. However, Henry’s said no to Barcelona last season and got pretty pissed at them as well, so this one is not done and dusted yet. Will Arsenal sell Henry? I said they should’ve done so last year - this year they won’t get as good a price for him, even if they do pawn him off.
Liverpool’s chances with Eto’o
They have money and are expected to make one big purchase for a striker this summer - Villa was supposedly the top target but with Eto’o Liverpool merely have more options.
Will Eto’o go to Liverpool? If he had an offer from Chelsea, I doubt it.
Peter Crouch is the most likely casualty of an Eto’o signing.
Manchester United’s chances with Eto’o
One, I don’t see why United haven’t been linked to him yet. Is it because they think Torres is a done deal? I doubt that Torres is guaranteed to come, and if Eto’o is definitely on the market Ferguson will move for him, even though I would prefer someone like Klose so we can easily rotate with Rossi and Saha (instead of one player wanting to hog the limelight all the time.

He would be best suited to joining Arsenal, were the movement and inter-lonking play is the most similar to Barcelona. Not that he wouldn’t be able to adapt to a different system mind. Arsenal however do lack a powerful one chance - goal type player probably more than any of the other 3 teams. He has also been recently quoted as admiring Wenger as a coach and could well have been a ‘come and get me’ plee!?
Whoever ends up winning the race, they’ll have made a fabulous purchase as there’s no doubting his ability and pure class! What a fantastic proposition to have him playing in the Premiership.

If Eto’o is for sale it depends who can offer the biggest make-weight. Alonso, Ronaldo, Lampard or even (despite Laporta saying he missed his chance) Henry. All the above have been linked with Barca in the past. I think if United want Eto’o then they are in the box seat with Ronaldo being the biggest asset of them all but will they let him go, doubt it (if they can keep him). Alonso’s dad played for Barca, Lampard’s wife is Catalan. So maybe they’re the most obvious swap deals. Then throw unsettled Deco in the equation…………. Oh this could go on forever. (and knowing our press, it probably will).

Eto’o’s (now that’s a fun abreviation) not going anywhere. Why should he?
He plays for the best team out there, when in form, and it’s one of the biggest clubs. All the talk about internal problems in Barcelona…where does it come from? - the media.
I guarantee you that both Ronaldinho and Eto’o will stay at Barcelona…please spread the rumour. Eto’o is probably the best striker out there, and Barca will never let him go.
Deco is another question. He’s older and may seek a final adventure, but I doubt it.
I would love to see Eto,o going to arsenal because its the team that can suit with his style of playing. And He can have a good combination with His friends. I hope arsene wenger will consider it carefully,since he doesnt believe in stars,but in youngsters that has not made a name any where.
In all probability, he will come to Arsenal. I understand we have an unutilised 26 million in the kitty. That should come in handy. Plus, Henri could do with a top-notch striking partner.
I’m an Arsenal supporter but have been saying for some time I can see Henry going at the end of this year as he hits 30 and his influence on the team wains. Wenger would want a young pacy replacement so I think a disgruntle Eto will end up at Arsenal with Henry going the other way. Eto talked at lenght recently about his respect for Wenger and he would benefit most from the way Arsenal play rather than join machine like Chelsea or Liverpool. Utd with the Glazers would not be keen on forking out another £20m after spending £18 on a just above average midfielder.
I just don’t see him in a Man U shirt. I could see either Arsenal or Chelsea, but Liverpool buy second-tier strikers only, so they’re out. United need him the most, but they seem pretty locked on Torres. Imagine Eto’o and Henry paired together? Almost as frightening as Eto’o-Drogba.
There’s been a lot of talk recently that the young Gunners play better when Henry is not on the pitch. I don’t think that’s Henry’s fault. Rather, I think the kiddies get a little lazy or star-struck when Henry is there thinking that he will do all the work. But when he’s not around, they put on a different attitude that they’ve got to work hard because they can’t rely on him.
Of course the reality is that Henry is just one man who usually faces pretty heavy defensive coverage. He needs the rest of his team to play to the best of their ability and not put all the pressure on him.
So, how will that attitude change if we swap Henry for Eto’o? You’re changing out one big star for another big star. Will the kiddies take themselves more seriously with Eto’o than they do with Henry? The only reason they might is that I can’t see Eto’o taking on the role of mentor as Henry has done. Perhaps by being the really cool older brother figure, Henry has done this to himself. But then again, he’s the captain, how else is he supposed to treat the rest of his team?
If Eto’o replaces Henry, I don’t see him coming in as Captain. (Not sure who would take over, Toure, maybe.) Without that burden, the rest of the team may play up to their potential even with a big star on the field. But I really think Van Persie is wonderful and Adebayor is really talented as well. I would hate to see either of them get pushed aside.
What Arsenal needs more than an expensive striker is a defender with good pace and even better heading skills. We just don’t have anyone who can head the ball very well, so corners are almost not even worth taking.

actually, eto’o is off to liverpool. he has already said he isn’t ever going to chelsea, and he wanted to move to liverpool b4 the 04/05 season but liverpool didn’t have enough money, so he wen to real madrid. so they got cisse instead. plus liverpoll are gettin £100 - 150 million to spend.

I think that Eto’o is better off coming to arsenal, Abromovich won’t let shevchenko be pushed aside as it was hs influence which led to his purchase. Liverpool I just don’t think their a big enough name to have a player with as much talent as Eto’o. Arsenal have the most suitable style of play for Eto’o as we basically play the same style of football as barcelona anyway, and Henry and Eto’o partners upfront would be brilliant as well !
i think that eto’o will definately go to liverpool, theres no doubt about it. david villa will also follow soon. 1st of all liverpool have the money and the players like gerard that will attract them. 2ndly, liverpool is one of the biggest team in EPL (+ 5 chapions league trophy) and they have won it 18 times..

Well lets look at it .
Chelsea think they need him but, they think they need everyone. If it was up to them Robbie Fowler would be playing central midfield just to fit in, besides, Chelsea are not going to spend another 250 million on players as Roman has a massive divorce payment going on unless his ex is going to buy him just because she can.
Liverpool have been linked with just about every player in the world since they got money, why would they buy him Rafa the Gaffa is a spanish boy - he’ll go after Torres or Villa.
Man Utd - well who knows. Who expected him to sell Van Horsehead or Beckham. Who knows who he wull buy.

It seems as if those who are saying Arsenal are more involved with where they would most wish to see Eto’o, rather than where he is most likely to actually end up. It has been published on numerous occasions that Arsenal have very little money to spend this year. As well as that, all of their players are very young you only need one striker as good as Henry on a team. Arsenal may have short passing, fluid link-up play similar to Barcelona, but they are the by far the least likely to even consider bidding.
Liverpool are the opposite. I don’t believe they have a forward as good as Arsenal’s Van Persie, let alone their Henry. At the same time, they should be capable of outbidding anybody this year. Eto’o has himself sweet-talked Liverpool on numerous occasions this season in interviews. Everyone knows Liverpool are going places, and Eto’o might like to be their second superstar.
You get the feeling at Manchester he’d still be third most loved after Rooney and Ronaldo. But Manchester really need an out-and-out striker, to let Rooney drop back more comfortably if anything. Also, Solskjear is going next year and they’re expecting a £6-10m bid for Saha.
Chelsea were fairly unlikely because of Abramovich’s reluctance to spend even more money. However, there is evidence (in todays papers) that they might sell Shevchenko and Ballack. You’d expect them to make £30m out of this no problem.

good point however fans such as myself who know things on a baord level due to certain individuals has led me to believe when arsene wenger wanted a player no-matter what the price he gets them because the board would never want to deny him something which could jeprodise his currunt position. I f its £30,000000 or£35,000000 the board will come up with the money. As I said before eto’o all-most worships thierry henry and is attarckted to the area and stadium and has stated he always wanted to work under wenger.If weneger wants him he will get him regardless the money or compition, the best example being jose antonio reyes every club in eurpe wanted him (Real, Barca, AC, Inter Chelsea) all the big ones but when wenger came in he came in with right attitude and the money £17,000000. I am surprised that ManU is not linked with Eto. he is exactly the type of striker we need and he already plays the formation that we seem to have been playing most of the year (modified 433 / 4321) - with Rooney/Ronaldo substituting for Ronaldinho/Messi and Scholes for Deco.

I don’t think Eto’o is leaving Barça this season and thats because of his ego, but if he does I think Chelsea would be his new team only if they sell Shevchenko and Crespo definitively leaves.
I think Liverpool is the most likely to get Eto’o concidering he has voiced his admiration of the club and fans recently. But honestly I think Eto’o would make a big mistake leaving Barca. When Ronaldinho, Messi and Eto’o are playing together they can create the most awesome football on the planet. I doubt playing next Dirk Kuyt would help Eto’o have a better year than playing next to Barca’s forwards.

Barca have agreed a deal for Rodrigo Palacios - as I stated in an earlier post. Whether or not this signals the departure of Eto’o, I am not certain..
Would love to see Eto’o in Liverpools line up. He is for me the best stiker in Europe at the minute and has been for the lat few seasons now. The Player would add a much needed goalthreat for Liverpool that has been missing since Fowler and Owen. £35m. Bargain.

Etoo will not be going to the Emirates; Arsenal had their chance, and there is no way now that without sending another player in return that the Gooners will get him. They will get outbid by everybody.
Man Utd is wating on their young gun G. Rossi, so Etoo is a possibility. However, they do have Alan Smith who might be ready to go and a fitter Saha this season. They have already spent 50 million in transfers, so I think they are out.
Liverpool is intriguing, but Chelsea would outbid them just to do it for fun. And Cheslea doesn’t even need Etoo. So if he goes to an EPL club, it’ll be the Bridge, bu it won’t happen.
Instead, Etoo, IF he leaves, which I don’t think he will, will go to either Real or AC Milan. Both will spend heavily; whoever doesn’t have Kaka will be the one to get Etoo.

Henry’s already gone, so they have to replace somebody, although Arsenal is already really strong. Also Etoo fits in Arsenal.
