England Under-21 - Pearce appointment is a joke

Written by Ahmed Bilal. Tagged: England

Before the full details of the appointment had come out, it sounded like a good deal. Pearce has the potential to be a good manager and with England Under-21 and the U21 Euro Championship up in the summers, we would be able to see how he is with a team that actually has talent.

But the shambles of an agreement between the Manchester City board and the English FA mean that once again, the ‘management’ has chosen to plug in the hole temporarily (like Macca’s appointment as England coach) rather than find a long-term solution.

Question #1: Why is Pearce brought in if he’s only going to manage 1 friendly and then come back for the Euro Championships? I can understand that Simon Jordan was getting antsy, but even then Taylor could have skipped the two friendlies and taken the England U21 to the EC, and THEN been shafted. What’s the point of bringing in a new manager if you’re going to let him go after the summer tournament?

Question #2: England U21 needs a full-time manager, so is the FA looking for a long-term appointment, or will this hodgepodge relationship continue? Maybe they’d ask Roy Keane to take over for a couple of months?

I’d say more, but Richard Williams from the Guardian sums it all up pretty nicely.
