Peru took the lead early in the opening five minutes through Tottenham Hotspur target Christian Cueva. It was a brilliant goal, with Cueva’s Bergkamp-esque first touch and turn setting himself up to slot the ball past Dominguez to the back of the net.

Ricardo Gareca’s side doubled the lead through Edison Flores who cooly finished with a left-footed shot from just inside the box.

Ecuador pulled one back just before halftime through West Ham forward Enner Valencia with a fine finish from close range, set up by Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia.

And Ecuador levelled the scoreline just after the break with the goal coming from Miller Bolanos, who taps in from a Jefferson Montero pass.
