Chelsea winger: Monaco? I’m flattered

Chelsea winger Gael Kakuta has impressed during his loan spell with Spanish club Rayo Vallecano this season.

The 23-year-old Chelsea academy graduate has made only six league appearances for the Blues (his last appearance was in 2009) and has been loaned out elsewhere since 2009. He has played for Fulham, Bolton Wanderers, Dijon, Vitesse, and Lazio on loan from Chelsea and has also represented the French Under 21 side.

Kakuta joined Chelsea with lots of hope and promise, back in 2007. Germany legend Michael Ballack praised him heavily while he was also voted Academy player of the Year after finishing as the top scorer in the Chelsea Youth side (12 goals in 24 appearances) in his debut season.

He also holds of the record of becoming the youngest Chelsea player to ever represent the club in the Champions League. Kakuta was destined for greatness at Chelsea, but his career took a downward trajectory from there on.

This season he has scored five goals and managed six assists for Rayo. His impressive performances didn’t go unnoticed and he was recently linked with a move to French club Monaco in the summer.

The 23-year-old said as quoted by L’Equipe: “I do not know, but if ASM is interested, I’m flattered because it is a very good club.”

Kakuta certainly has no future at Chelsea and will be allowed to leave the club permanently at the end of the season.
