€25m Chelsea target inching closer to transfer?

Chelsea transfer news

Lazio winger Antonio Candreva is insistent on moving to Inter Milan, thereby snubbing the interest of Premier League club Chelsea. According to a report by Sky Italia, as relayed here by Football Italia, Candreva has his heart set on a move to the San Siro, even though his parent club are unwilling to sell for anything lower than €25 million. Inter have had an initial bid of €16 million rejected for the player.

Candreva is currently with the national side at the European Championships in France. His international team manager Antonio Conte will take over at Chelsea following the tournament, and is keen on the 29 year-old joining him at Stamford Bridge.

Inter could struggle could step their bid up to Lazio’s liking, due to Financial Fair Play considerations. It will be interesting to see what happens if the London club come in and meet the €25 million asking price. Chelsea are looking to rebuild after finishing 10th in the league last season. It remains to be seen what system Conte adopts, but if he continues with his preferred 3-5-2, Candreva will be a fantastic fit on the right flank.

The former Udinese man played the full 90 minutes in Italy’s first two group games. The Azzurri have been mightily impressive thus far, beating both Belgium and Sweden without conceding a single goal to qualify for the last 16. Candreva picked up a hamstring problem in the second of those matches, and is now a slight doubt for his side’s third and final encounter against the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday. He could spend his time on the sidelines thinking about the next move in his club career. At 29, this will most likely be his last big transfer. It remains to be seen whether the prospect of the money, fame and success at Chelsea can lure Candreva away from the comfort zone in his home country.
