The Belgium international suffered a calf injury during Chelsea’s second leg against PSG in the Champions League quarterfinal at Stamford Bridge, couple of weeks back and missed the last two league games.

Chelsea were hopeful that Hazard will be fit before their crunch European tie but as it stands, he could lose the fitness race.

When asked about Hazard on Friday, assistant coach Steve Holland admitted the Belgian might miss the tie.

“To be considered, he obviously needs to train with the group very quickly,” said Holland as quoted by Sky Sports. “It’s a day-by-day one at the moment.”

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho needs to find a way to prevent Diego Simeone’s rampaging Atletico Madrid side, who are on course to break the duopoly in Spain for the first time in many many years.

The Blues were dealt a major blow in the title race as they suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at home against Sunderland on Saturday.

David Luiz was rested against the Black Cats and the Brazilian is expected to marshall the midfield against the Rojiblancos.
