Liverpool legend and now turned football pundit Jamie Carragher says that Ander Herrera has been treated differently because he was a “club signing” rather than Louis van Gaal’s own choice.

Herrera joined United in the summer for a reported fee of £29.1m, a deal which was already on the verge of completion under previous manager David Moyes.

Van Gaal at that time was with Holland national team and he had very little to say on this transfer.

Herrara was used sparingly this season, but the Spaniard has always impressed every time he was given the opportunity. Against Arsenal on Monday night in the FA Cup, he was substituted after just 45 minutes mainly for tactical reasons.

Carragher feels that Herrera never felt the confidence of his manager as he was never his choice at all. He was never a key part in Van Gaal’s project.

He tweeted: “Feel for Herrera – not set the world a light but definitely a club signing rather than a Van Gaal one.”

Carragher might be taking a dig at United, for obvious reasons, but one a second thought, he is possibly right. Every manager trusts the player he likes and it is a fact that Herrera was not his signing.
