Bellamy to make triumphant Celtic return in January?

According to The Sun, Celtic could be set to make a £5m bid for West Ham striker Craig Bellamy in January.

Bellamy is just one of many West Ham players linked with moves away from Upton Park, with the club’s current struggles. Yesterday, I reported on Tottenham’s apparent interest in a double swoop for Robert Green and Matthew Upson.

While Green and Upson have been two of the bright spots in a down season for West Ham, Bellamy has scored only once this season, and he’s yet to make good on the £7.5m that the Hammers splashed out for him in 2007.

They’d be taking a loss by selling him, but a move to Celtic would help bring in some funds, and for Bellamy, it could be just the elixir to rejuvenate his club career. The last several years haven’t seen him always be at top form, but one of his best recent runs of success came in a loan spell at Celtic in the second half of the 2004/05 season, when he scored nine goals in 15 appearances.

Gordon Strachan has taken the managerial reins from Martin O’Neill since then, but Bellamy would no doubt jump at the chance at a return to a place where he enjoyed great success.
