Arsène Wenger updates Arsenal injuries: Wilshere, Ramsey + Arteta

Jack Wilshere Injury

Arsenal were involved in an entertaining 1-1 draw in the North London derby at the Emirates on Saturday.

Arsène Wenger’s side have to come from behind as Tottenham took the lead inside 10 minutes of the second half.  Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain rescued a point from close range with the Gunners looking the more-likely side to find a winner after but failed to beat Hugo Lloris for a second time.

The result did not come without its costs.  Arsenal are set to play Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday in a match they will want to win after losing their group stage opener in Dortmund a fortnight ago.

Additional players may be added to the already long injury list after yesterday’s clash.

Both Mikel Arteta and Aaron Ramsey picked up injuries in the first half and immediately substituted.  Jack Wilshere also picked up a knock in the first half but was not replaced until the second half.

Speaking to, the Gunners boss was questioned about the injuries:

“I think Ramsey is a hamstring and Arteta is a calf. Wilshere [has] an ankle [problem].

“I don’t know how long they’ll be out.”

When asked whether he was worried about Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere being injured, Wenger responded:

“Not constantly. Wilshere, if you look at the incident again, has been tackled and turned his ankle over. Ramsey is a concern that he did his hamstring. I don’t understand because he had a good rest this week, I didn’t play him against Southampton on Tuesday night. It’s a surprise because he’s usually a resistant boy.”

Arsenal already have injuries to Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott, Mathieu Debuchy, Nacho Monreal, Serge Gnabry and Yaya Sanogo.

Arsène Wenger does have plenty of options available in midfield should the weekend’s casualties not be available for Tuesday.  Mesut Özil was pushed out to the left wing, whilst Alexis Sánchez, Santi Cazorla and Mathieu Flamini were all brought on as substitutes.  Tomáš Rosický and Abou Diaby are alternative options.
