The Gunners host Middlesbrough in the fifth round of the FA Cup clash at the Emirates on Sunday. The Frenchman has already confirmed he will not be able to call upon Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey as the duo are out of action with injuries.
In addition to this, Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Debuchy and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all out of action, while Jack Wilshere returned to training after spending the last few months on the sidelines.
However, the England midfielder still lacking match fitness and will not feature on Sunday. The north London club have a long history of injured players and Wenger has suggested that it is not down to his training techniques.
“No [I will not change my training methods], we have individualised training for the players and prevention. I don’t think that is any special case that has been neglected, it’s just that we have to find a reason why that happens. It’s not a major injury, it’s a Grade One, a small injury, a small muscle problem,” Wenger told Arsenal’s official website.
Middlesbrough, the Championship club have made it to the fifth round of the FA Cup, while Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are all knocked out of the cup competition.
They made it to the fifth round of the FA Cup after knocking Premier League champions out of the cup as the defeated City 2-0 at the Etihad. Wenger admitted that Boro’s progress in the competition does not surprise him.
“We won’t be surprised by them. At least we will not have the excuse to be surprised because they beat Manchester City in a convincing way. That is a good warning for us,” the Gunners boss explained.
“We are at home, we have a possibility to go to the quarter-finals so we cannot be surprised by them, that’s for sure. In the Championship, any team that plays at the top is a danger for any Premier League team.”
