Arsenal star issues warning to rivals after Bayern victory

Arsenal star Theo Walcott has sent a warning message to their league rivals that the Gunners are high on confidence following their 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League group stage fixtures.

After losing the first two European matches of this season, Arsene Wenger decided to drop David Ospina and started Petr Cech against the Bundesliga outfit. The South American goalkeeper started in both the defeats in the Champions League.

Goals from Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil sealed first points of the campaign in Europe’s elite club competition this term. Arsenal were not the favourites and despite Bayern dominating the match with possession, it was the Premier League side which came out victorious in the end.

The victory comes just weeks after their sealed a crushing 3-0 victory over Manchester United in the league clash. The England international says his side’s confidence is flowing through the team and Arsenal showed class in their win over Bayern.

“You play against the best in the Champions League and Bayern are a top-class team – but we showed our class,” the forward told Sky Sports.

“The confidence is just flowing through the team at the moment, you can see that. Results show it and, if we continue this, you never know where it’s going to take us. We are looking really strong.

“We have been fantastic in the Premier League. The two games in the Champions League before weren’t great, but I think a lot of teams are starting to be a bit wary of our confidence.

“This result can’t just be a one-off. We need to keep on doing it. But what we want is for teams to be wary of us. We want to put out a message and Tuesday night can hopefully show that.

“We’ve still got a lot to do to qualify and we won’t get ahead of ourselves because our focus now is on the Premier League. That next game against Bayern is a long way ahead but if we beat Bayern, we can beat anyone.”

In the league, Arsenal are second in the table, two points behind league leaders Manchester City. They are level on points with United, who are third in the table with goal difference separating the arch-rivals.
