Would Chelsea’s Jose Mourhino ever agree to manage Newcastle United?

Given all the rumors going on about Jose Mourhino and recent talk about him possibly wanting to stay in the premiership - which are the teams he may be attracted to – if Chelsea were to let him go in the summer (or at the end of his contract)?

Jose Mourhino was with Bobby Robson at Barcelona - and when Bobby took over as Newcastle manager in September 1999 he tried to get Mourhino as assistant manager….but Jose wanted to be a manager in his own right by that time.

If Jose does ever manage Newcastle (and the thought alone is uplifting) he would be a saint at Newcastle and the fans would worship him.

Jose has the ability to make good teams from the players available (the real definition of a good coach) as he showed at Porto - and with Newcastle currently having some very good players - (albeit under-performing) getting the best out of the current squad would probably have them in 5th place in the premiership.

Mourhino already been at Newcastle several times with Chelsea and has experienced the raw football fanaticism on Tyneside - where his team have been beaten a couple of times by Newcastle.

The following are some of the reasons Jose may be attracted to the unlikely place of Newcastle:

  • He would be Idolized at Newcastle (and he would love that)
  • He could (and would) bring success to a club that hasn’t had any for 40 years
  • Newcastle’s Fan base is second to none – and there would be 60,000 home gates
  • Newcastle’s Training facilities at Little Benton are second to none
  • Jose can forever be linked (and loved) with a club yearning for success

Certainly Newcastle could afford him - since success would be virtually guaranteed - and the extended stadium would be packed with 60,000 fanatical Geordies every home game.

With Mourhino at the helm he could bring out the best in the squad – which has plenty of class – and he could attract the 3 or 4 top players (mostly defenders) Newcastle currently need to build a team that could qualify for the Champions league.

Mourhino has also commented several times on how good the Newcastle youth policy is at Newcastle and of course - as already mentioned - our training facilities are world class.

While the money would not be available at Newcastle like it has been at Chelsea - the emergence of Newcastle under Mourhino would no doubt attract investors and the chances of a club take-over would be significantly increased…..and money would no doubt be made available under these circumstances.

While it will probably never happen – I cannot think of something more exciting for both the city and Newcastle United Football Club – than to capture Jose Mourhino on a five year contract.

The buzz in the city would make the Keegan days look dull.

But I’m only dreaming that this could ever happen – or could it?

  1. hahahahahahaha!!!

Dream On Geordies - if he ever leaves the blues it will be for a top team like Barca, Real, AC or Inter.

Wow - where can I buy the drugs that your smoking?

  2. i had to strap myself into my chair reading this to stop me falling out with laughter..

funny as.. As TrueBlue says.. pass the crack pipe….

  3. I’m a toon supporter and jose would never manage newcastle. Not only because we are not a ‘big’ club but because we have probabaly the most greedy, idiotic chairman in the league who could never capture a half decent manager never mind the best in the world.

    Shepherd out….Roeder out.

  4. TrueBlue & Stephen - it came to me in a dream …. and then I woke up (laugh).
  5. Although you make some good points, it would never happen.

He would be Idolized at Newcastle (and he would love that):-Yes he would on both counts, but would that be enough? He was idolised at Porto and he still left, he would also be idolised at Real Madrid.

He could (and would) bring success to a club that hasn’t had any for 40 years:-He would make you a better team but it’s impossible to say he would bring you success.

Newcastle’s Fan base is second to none – and there would be 60,000 home gates:-Lets be honest, your fan base is second to United. And before you mention words like ‘Plastic’ and ‘Far East’ we where getting 60,000 home gates when we got relegated to the 2nd division back in the ‘old days’.

Newcastle’s Training facilities at Little Benton are second to none.:-How important is that really? Jose could easily demand a clubs training ground be upgraded in any contract talks if he decided they were not up to scratch.

Jose can forever be linked (and loved) with a club yearning for success:-All clubs are yearning for success, whether their currently successful or not. Big clubs like Spurs, Everton and ‘Boro yearn for the same success just as much, as do United, Chelsea and Madrid.

  6. of course he’d come to newcastle, but not for a single reason that you or anyone else has mentioned. he’d come to us (or any other club for that matter) if the money was right & that’s the only reason.
he’d only be idolised if he got us back to playing the good attacking football that we expect to see up here. the success we crave comes second to that (although i’m sure it would come sooner or later if we were playing good football).
i have to agree with nick on every point he’s made, though in fairness have to point out that when manure got relegated to the old 2nd division, everybody & their dog was getting 60,000 crowds so long as they had a stadium that could hold that many.
sorry ed but you’re clutching at straws with this one mate.
now a better article would have been…
would abramovichs’ ex missus be so pissed off with him that she’d buy fat freddy out & make us great again just to annoy him?
    now that would be something!!

who’s next on the crack pipe?

sean “make us great again”??? AGAIN??? Pass that pipe on over here mate, youve had too much.

  8. I don’t think this is very likely, but who can blame a Toon fan for dreaming when reality is so excruciating.

  9. Plastic scouser doesn’t have a clue! We, as every geordie should know, we were great in the 1950s so where were the scousers then? We have ultimatley the best support in the world that has won nothing in decades. I was in Liverpool not so long back and the only thing I kept hearing from the dump was 5 times champions. Well have you won the premiership lately? Any other fan bar from Liverpool would agree that you only won you’re last champions league by a pure fluke. And what else have you won in the last 15 years, I nearlly forgot, carling and a couple of fa cups! Stop dreaming and thinking you’re in the late 70s-80s again because the reallity is, Liverpool arn’t as good as Man U, Chelsea or Arsenal. Dream on with you’re new billionare owner and while you lot go for the lack of tradition and heritage with you’re brand NEW (not one with history where all the greats have played on the same spot) stadium. Newcastle will keep all theres in tact like any proper team who’s proud of there stadium history, yet still manage to expand to over 60,000, shame on you liverpool.

  10. kev - stop over-compensating for your club’s lack of stature :)

Ed - thanks for the post man, fantastic idea.

Let’s look at it this way - why can’t Mourinho stay in the Premiership?

And if does, where will he go next season? Arsenal? If Kroenke takes over by June, then yes, it’s a chance. Tottenham? Unless they implode and Jol is thrown out (the later isn’t going to happen this season), that’s not happening.

Unfortunately, there are no other ‘big’ clubs left. I doubt that Mourinho would go to West Ham. Everton? Bolton? Doesn’t feel right, does it?

  11. I would love to see him at ManU as SAF’s successor (after he ‘learns’ to play a bit more attacking football)

  12. April 13, 2007plasticscouser

OOH kev, did i touch a nerve there? LOL about your anti liverpool rant. Im not going to get into an argument with a newcastle fan about success. That would be futile. You are a small club like everton :-) All you have won is hearts and minds and feck all else. You do have many loyal wonderful fans who deserve better than the dross youve been served up with lately. I bet you would give your left bollock for one of the 11 trophies we have won over the last decade. AND YOU KNOW IT!

  13. April 13, 2007plasticscouser

Also we can not expand on our current stadium as we are landlocked. I thought this was common knowledge. You shouldnt have such strong opinions on something you know nothing about!

  14. plasticscouser - we’re back to what constitutes a big club.
Very true - as we all know - that NUFC haven’t won anything for years.
However - in terms of both revenue and hyow much the club is worth (to buy) - we are ranked the 13th richest club in the world - with this year’s rankings.
So we’re back to what is a big club - we also have a great stadium and world class training facilities - looks like the only thing we don’t have are some trophies lately.
  15. April 13, 2007plasticscouser

I know your a big club mate. Just on the windup

  16. plasticscouser:- 1905-1911… 3 league titles, cup winners once (r/up 4 times) 2 charity shields
now gimme that damn pipe back, i’ve not had it since yesterday lol

  17. April 13, 2007plasticscouser

Back in those heady days when even the wireless, let alone tv was not invented. Ok mate, i’ll take it back, you were great once. Ahmed has the pipe. He is celebrating ronaldos signing of a new contract in style. Its a slippery slope tho… :-)

  18. I’m not handing the bloody thing over :)

  19. Is that the Peace Pipe.
  20. April 13, 2007plastic scouser

No it wont be the peace pipe. He’s far too stubborn, biased and set in his manc ways to do that!!
