World Football Records Fourth Edition Book Review
The World Football Records fourth edition from Carlton Books is a chronicle of every single record you can think of related to international football.
The book itself is on the larger side to your average hard back but it is easy to use, easy to follow and very easy to read. This book will be right up your street if you’re into your records and statistics.
The contents pages break everything down nicely which allows you to quickly find the section you’re looking for and if you want to look up an exact record of something quite obscure then the index pages will provide you with a quick route to your information.
The sections are broken down firstly into countries and then into the major tournaments around the world; the World Cup, the European Championship, the Copa America, the Africa Cup of Nations and then sections for the youth versions of tournaments as well as a detailed chapter for women’s football.
Each section has a brief introduction which explains a little bit about the structure behind that particular tournament before the chapter breaks into small sub-sections. This works very well if you want to read the book from start to finish and take it all in because you won’t feel overwhelmed by the masses of information.
The majority of the sections will work on the basis of pointing out a record and then telling you a very brief story behind it. This works well alongside the tables which appear throughout the book which are helpful if you’re just intrigued to see who has the most caps for a country or who has scored the most goals.
The tournament pages are where this book is at its very best. The editor has done a superb job in ensuring that you are taken through the history of the competition with records and stats blended in.
This makes the book much more than just a records book, it allows you to learn about each tournament, the history of it and how the records have developed over time and again each section is broken down into chunks with records for performances, goals, disciplinary and many other areas covered in full.
If you’re looking for a book which gives you everything you need to know about international football and international tournaments then this is the book you need.
