World Cup Day 6: Taking a breather

Written by Ahmed Bilal. Tagged: World Cup 2010

Some lighter matches today, as Group H plays out it’s first round and Germany square up against Poland.

That last match is made interesting only because of the implications for Poland if they lose - after their defeat to Ecuador on day one they are looking likely candidates for being knocked out in the first round, and they will be meeting a team buoyed by a 4-2 win and further pumped by Ballack’s return to the center of the park. Another defeat awaits.

Spain take on Ukraine and minnows Saudi Arabia and Tunisia slug it out in the two Group H matches. This has to be the least interesting group of the whole tournament as Ukraine with Shevchenko and Spain with their galaxy of stars are almost expected to qualify. Their matchup should prove to be the most interesting, although only from a purist’s perspective as opposed to anyone concerned with how the second round will turn out. My advice - take a breather tomorrow, get back to your regular life and gear up for Day 7, when England come under the microscope for a second time and the big question - will Rooney play? - gets answered.

And what if you are a German or Spanish fan? In that case mates, best of luck for the wins.
