Will Gallas Leave Arsenal?

According to a report published by the British tabloid The Sun, Arsenal central defender William Gallas is unhappy at being ‘ostracized’ by the club and wants to move out of the Emirates.

Gallas was recently stripped of the Arsenal captaincy after he made controversial comments about his teammates at the Emirates. He was even sidelined by the Gunners for some time but has recently been reinstated at the heart of the defence.

But the former Chelsea defender is not happy at the treatment that has been meted out to him. The Sun quotes a ‘friend’ of Gallas as saying that the French defender feels lonely and left out in the dressing room.

“William is not a happy man at the moment. He did not apologise to his team-mates over his comments, nor did Arsene Wenger make him do so. But he still feels completely humiliated to have been stripped of the captaincy and is strongly thinking about a move in January.

“The summer would be too far away. He says he is lonely in the dressing room and at training, and he doesn’t really have many friends. William doesn’t want to return to France but AC Milan have publicly shown their interest in him and that would be an attractive option.”

Well, it is hard to rely on the credibility of the source- this ‘friend’ of William Gallas- but it cannot be denied that Gallas is not happy with the present state of affairs even if they have been of his own making, and his track record suggests that once he’s unsettled at a club he’s more than likely to ship out instead of making peace.

Or has Gallas mellowed with age? One thing is certain – Gallas is the odd man out and his age means he’s not one for the future, so more likely than not we will see him shipped out in January or next summer.

  1. 05/12/2008 TABO JOELS

It will bea blessing in disguise if the big man leaves, it will give arsene a chance to sign a defender who is good at defending set pieces, corners, aerial balls. more so johann djoruo will get his chance to show his potential and probably develop as a arsenal defender just like how toure was nurtured, with an arsene philosophy and team ethic.

  2. Gallas has not brought anything good to Arsenal. It was wrong for him to be given the armband in the first place, with more committed players like Gilberto and Toure being left out. He should be sold as soon as possible for the sake of Gunners’ unity and prosperity.
