Will your club respect referees this season?
Who’d want to be a ref anyway? All that stomping around, shouting and getting angry – and that’s from the players and supporters.
So what happens when an amateur star-studded football team tries to play 11-a-side without a ref? About the same as what happens to any football game played without a ref – chaos and farce.
The FA Respect video kicks off their campaign to stamp out dissent in football, highlighting the important job the referees do, and encouraging more people into the game while also bringing to light the level of abuse that takes place on and off the pitch.
Featuring England Manager Fabio Capello, top referee Howard Webb and ex-pros and footballing celebrities, including Mark Bright and Les Ferdinand.

As long as they stop costing us points with the decisive decisions! If they were at least consistent it would be a start!!
Man u wont…They never will
As long as they realise John Carew is a big lad and stop giving fouls against because he brushes against a defender.
As long as the officials dont cost us points like they did with their ridiculous decisions last season giving penalties against us that arent and offside which arent.
These officials need taking to task
As long as refs are not made to feel the pressure by moaning managers and the mind games played by many managers in the league then it should be fine. Its to be expected of supporters and players but not from managers they should learn some respect then it might rub off on some of the prima donnas they train.
@Greekos - and fans shouldn’t learn any respect or patience?
They should target the biggest offenders. Man Utd Arsenal and Chelsea. But as these teams are allowed to get away with it week after week after week, what else do they expect.
Dock any offenders points. End of. The FA just have no bottle.
I think that refs deserve far more respect than they get in the premier league. I follow Australian Rules Football as well as football and players are suspended or given 50m penalties against them for much less than they get away with in the premier league. AFL is much more physical game but a lot more respect is given by the players. I think it is about time football caught up with the rest of the sporting world. Anyone that doesn’t agree is a moron and should have a try at being a ref themselves. Then they might think differently.
I’m an American and watching the stark contrast between what I see watching american football versus european footy is horrendous. In all the sports I watch, other that football, I see a respect for the referee with harsh penalties called in cases that involve athletes who lack this respect.
To see some top footballers just not have a touch of class when it comes to accepting a decision makes my stomach turn. Yes, some referees suffer mistakes, but that is to be expected, they are human after all. These guys do something I wouldn’t want to do and deserve respect from everyone involved: players, fans, managers, and club representatives alike.
Every team at every level has had someone disrespect a referee and I don’t think fingers should be pointed about what has happened in the past. Rather I think referees should strictly enforce the code they are told to uphold.
