People are under-estimating Real Madrid. They may not have a legion of world beaters anymore but their team is much more dynamic and functional now.

If you look closely Real are slowly going to become the AC Milan of Spain. Besides Robben, a good majority of its first team are almost thirty, some way past that. Unless they rope in new young talent they are going to struggle through the league like Ac Milan did In Serie A all those years and soon come to a standstill. Good young prospects hesitating to go to Real isn't helping matters one bit.

The midfield offer little protection.
No team in the world can offer 3 defensive midfielders like Gago, Diarra, and De La Red.

Their Champions League record is poor.
In the group of death, with the two toughest visits out of the way (@Zenit, @Juventus), is second place and a 2-0-1 record a bad way to start? They should win the group.

Raul is past his best.
So is Van Nistelrooy, Guti, and Heinze. The rest of the team is very young and talented. Higuain is Raul’s replacement.

They have been fortunate so far to have the points they do.

1-2 over Betis: they dominated the game, especially in the first half. Marcelo was red carded, and penalty was awarded to Betis.
2-2 vs. Espanyol: 60% ball possesion, 24-10 shots. Penalty for Espanyol.
1-2 at Atletico: It should’ve been 3-0 at the half. Van Nistelrooy unfairly saw a straight red.
3-2 vs. Athletic: Yes, Marcelo could’ve been red carded. But Sneijder just missed a goal to the post too. Athletic gave a good fight, but you can’t say they didn’t deserve to win 56-46 ball possession, 20-15 shots.
