Will Manchester United Buy Senna and Tevez?
Tired as I am of all these pointless rumours, the current crop, and especially that of Senna, worth mentioning in light of what I said earlier today on Manchester United buying further reinforcements for the midfield and attack.
We know that we still need to replace Keano with a holding midfielder, and we now also have to replace Ruud. Will Tevez and Senna provide the right answers?
And more importantly, will they even come?
Carlos Tevez
With Carlos Tevez, the case is straight forward. This is the Argentinian version of Wayne Rooney, and the prospect of having him and Rooney lead Manchester United’s attack is good enough to drive fans to day-long happy hours. Give me Tevez and Rooney, and I could win you the Premiership. Seriously, he is that good – or were you not watching the World Cup?
But Tevez has Chelsea written all over him. Some reports say that he will be brought in when Crespo leaves for Milan – giving Mourinho a full complement of 4 quality strikers (Sheva, Drogba, Kalou and Tevez). Roman’s links with MSI (who own the Corinthians) and Mourinho’s trip to ‘watch’ the team in action a couple of months ago further increased rumours of a transfer. Tevez himself has said that he would like to stay in Brazil only for one more year (at least that’s how I’m interpreting it) – was Tevez being prepped to arrive at Chelsea next year?
In all this, a move to United seems very unlikely. Rumour-mongers are clutching at straws – a close friendship between Heinze and Tevez, problems with a supporters’ group and the odd instance that he wore a United shirt to a press conference last season. You can read TeamTalk’s take on it here, but for my money it is pure BS (just like the Ruud-for-Carrick and O’Shea-for-Carrick rumours were).
Marcos Senna
This one is definitely more interesting. The Spanish media is reporting that Marcos Senna has agreed personal terms with Manchester United and that he would be moving from Villareal to Old Trafford for 10 mil Euros. You would think that with Sky Sports and CNN reporting this as well (though they’ve been careful to say that it’s the Spanish media who is saying this), the story has any credibility.
To understand why Senna is not the right fit, you have to compare him with Vieira. Senna is 30 (same age as Vieira), more expensive (Vieira would cost 6 to 8 mil Euros) and definitely not as good as the Frenchman.
Why would we sign one 30-year old player for 2-3 years for 10 mil when we can sign a better player for a lesser price? Vieira has the Premiership experience as well, so unless he’s said no, we shouldn’t even be looking at Senna.
For my money the Senna story is crock, and if it is true this has to be really bad business. With players like Hargreaves and Vieira both willing to come to United, why can’t we stump up the nerve (Vieira) or cash (Hargreaves) for them?
If we had to chose 1 player, we’d take a midfielder over a striker. And in any list of midfielders that United might be after, Senna doesn’t even make the top 5.

Give up on these silly rumours. Tevez to United will never happen. There is enough going on to talk about like what’s gonna happen to Scholes in the new formation. There’s a report on http://www.absolutelyunited.com which makes me think his days at United could be numbered.
your report is good until you say that Hargreaves is good enough for United. Vierra proved in the WC that he has no legs and is not a great holding midfielder, remember him in the CL against Arsenal. Senna is tough and an excellent passer of the ball – bring him on . I agree that Tevez would be a magnificent signing – a better one for us than Torres
dt – like i said in the article, these rumours are baseless.
and i read the article you were talking about. It’s not a report, it’s a bloody fuckin’ opinion by a fan who happens to like Park more than he likes Scholes. That’s not news mate, that is random conjecture.
Steve – Me and you haven’t been watching the same World Cup. The jaded Vieira that you mention was in Juve, not in the WC (where he was France’s best player). I don’t think that United should sign either Senna or Vieira, but should go for Hargreaves. For one, he’s a good ballwinner (although not in the Mascherano / Gattuso mould). Second, he’s good at going forward and picking out passes as well.
Watch Hargreaves actually play for Bayern before saying that he isn’t good enough.
ok its some geezer giving his opinion like you but whose in your midfield if Senna or hargreaves come in? Where does scholes fit in if United get a new holding midfielder? Stuck out on the left wing instead of Park. Dont think so!
rotate scholes, carrick and senna/vieira/hargreaves in central midfield.
and my main argument is about the quality of the player. Hargreaves is young, has plenty of Champions League experience and is a bloody good player who does everything that Vieira does.
what more can you ask for?
i dont think carlos tevez ‘has chelsea written all over him’ because he has been seen on a number of occaisons wearing a man utd shirt and he has said that if he were to move to the premiership he would prefer to go to united.
but i dont think he’ll come to united because of Ferguson and/or the glazers.
i hope senna doesnt come but we still need another midfielder and i’d love to see mascherano to come. Actually i’d love to see both tevez AND mascherano to come to united. but its not gonna happen
Tevez becuase ferguson has been quoted saying he wont go for defoe becuase he has faith in rossi to become key memeber of the squad. Also because corinthians dont want to sell him now they want to sell him in 4-5 years time.
Mascherano because the ways he goes on about scholes and with the new arrival of carrick it seems that seems to be the first choice partner ship in central midfield.
i am sure we have the money to buy both of them but i seriously doubt even one of them will be signed.
What makes you think that Vieira would even sign for United? Its been reported all over the media for weeks that a deal with Inter is imminent; and even if it wasn’t, with all the bad blood between United and Arsenal I very much doubt he’d move to Old Trafford.
The Vieira – Inter deal is being hyped because Inter are talking to the press about it, United arent.
Vieira could sign for us because of two reasons – he’d be back in the Premiership, and because he knows Ferguson likes him. Keano and Ruud are gone, and Neville is professional enough to handle Vieira being in his team. Bad blood is on the pitch mate, not in the dressing room, and not all the time (it’s worse between Ferguson and Wenger than it is between the two sets of players).
I was just wandering if there was any credibility to the Tevez/Mascherano rumours. Like most United fans these rumours have me very excited. Can you imagine Tevez and Rooney up front; it would be the most destructive front pair in Europe and if anyone’s good enough to replace Keane it’s Mascherano.
I dont know who wrote this article, but I want to beleive that this person is in extreme need of psychiatric help if he thinks Viera is better than Senna! My case point is last year’s Champions league games that Arsenal played against Juventus(Viera’s team) and Villarreal(Senna’s team).
Fabregas with Gilberto Silva assisting him as holding midfielder ran the Juventus midfield(where Viera plays the same role as Fabregas) and defence ragged over both legs!I can even remember him nutmegging your so-called Viera once or twice!
This same Arsenal midfield duo did the same thing to Villarreal in their first leg,and Senna also played in that game.Accepted! But the difference between the two legs is that in the first leg,Senna didn’t play in front of the back four(his position of strength where he plays best),Tacchinardi did,and he couldn’t match Fabregas! Senna was put on the right(probably to stop the threat of Henry coming down their left flank.)With Tachinardi suspended for the second leg,Senna was put in his natural role, where he performed exceptionally shielding the back four, keeping possession, and giving supporting runs when necessary on the attack. It’s because his team lacked bite up front that Arsenal went through,NOT because Arsenal were a better team.
So imagine what a player like Senna could do for us (albeit for the immediate short term!)Face it Viera,Hargreaves etc cant come to United(at least for now)and in the shape we’re in(if you watched the Watford game)we’d be extremely lucky to scrape a draw against Chelsea/Liverpool,let alone compete in Europe!Senna is available and the club wants to sell,so if we’ve spent £18.6mill on Carrick,I’m sure we can afford to spend £10 mill on Senna(who in my opinion is the best holding midfielder in the world!)
Man UTD should sign
Joaquin for Ronaldo (if injured)
Vicente for Giggsy for Life
Villa
Robben
Tevez
Torres and Henrik Larsson
SENNA IS A W*NKER MR MAX KAMARAKE
