the start of Barca's title search was marred by a scared but equally packed defence, with the reputation RM is now carrying it is interesting to see more and more teams thrown into their defensive shell.....villareal had no shell...

Don't count barca out yet, nor sell Rm short either

Nig:

Good analysis but just a little correction: Drenthe was brought to Madrid to play on LW, along with Robben and not the LB. The leftback position is occupied by Torres, Heinze and Marcelo.

Ideal lineup:

-------------- Ruud --------------
Robben ------------------- Robinho
------ Guti -------- Sniejder ----
------------- Diarra --------------
Heinze --- Pepe --- Canna --- Ramos

i saw a game between barcelona vs some chinese all star team and it seems as if they need to practice a lot more. i mean individually, each player are all good, no, great, however their team work seems to be lacking. it seems like henry was trying to do fancy stuff with ronaldinho but they kept messing up doing fancy passes and plays. despite the fact that they won 4-0, i think it should've been like 10-0 because the chinese all star team was one of the worst teams i have ever seen. barcelona is like an all-star team itself. but then, it was a friendly and barcelona didn't really need to try their best. so many in real games, they won't playy around so much and actually try to score. i haven't seen any of their games yet so i don't really know.

Sorry I didn't mention Robben. It will be interesting to see where he plays. With Sneijder playing so well on the left you wouldn't want to move him, but Robben should fit in fine on the right.
As for Toure, he announced a change to Toure Yaya the day he signed for Barça. He has Toure Yaya on his shirt - http://www.advalvas.be/fr/images/stories/belga/pxy_17648077_12953298_256.jpg

It's Yaya Toure, not Toure Yaya and nod to Red Ranter for pointing out the Robben threat.

RM really do look stronger this year than last season while I'm not so sure Barca have that fire in them. It's all relative, I suppose, but it's as much about attitude as results and there's a clear difference.

You missed Robben in your analysis of Madrid. The dutch contingent is pretty strong now in Madrid. If Robben manages to stay injury free, Real would become very scary.

It will be interesting for me to see how Henry's gameplay fits in with the rest of the squad. I agree now with Eto'o out of the way he might just become the primary striker for the team. I sense that Ronaldinho gets along a lot better with Henry than with Eto'o so if the 2 senior megastars start clicking we're in for some fireworks. They might still be a bit shorthanded in midfield though & it looks as though Real Madrid have got that aspect of their game sown up. I expect that the teams will win their respective home games against each other as the home support might just be the decisive factor to tip the balance.
