Who’s on your shitlist?
A few days ago I asked SL readers to name the sites they visit and the sites they hate because of their rumours. This whole thing ties up with a discussion (see comments section of that page) we had a long time ago on SL about unreliable football news sources.
The outcome? We now have an official Soccerlens Shitlist - a wall of shame that we can put full-o-crap websites on and warn other people.
Listen - I understand the need to make ends meet - I’ve been there for a long time and in some ways I’m still at that level. I also understand the attraction of the heavy attention your site gets when you publish sensationalist bullshit. But at the end of the day, there’s a difference between consistently lying and trying to keep your nose clean and not mislead your readers.
I’m not going to bash the NewsNow culture where quantity reigns over quality because it works for a lot of people and it makes ends meet. And there’s no point in attacking people personally (although those writers at the Sun and the Guardian know who they are).
Bottom line - head over to the football news shitlist and read about the sites you should stay clear off.

None of them are on my shit list because I’d have to be frakken wanker to believe them in the first place. I read them for the comedic element they offer. Especially my fave is none other than shite of all sites, football-rumours.co.uk
Read the garbage that’s fed to that site if you are down and you need a pick-me-up to lift your day with a giggle. All transfer rumor sites are total shite. If you believe in them and take them very seriously, it time to get on some medication or better yet, get a shag.

I have a few comments. Not a single site on football can offer reliable rumours because rumours are always rumours. How is it that a big team like Man United go and get a player called Anderson without a single rumour? So where does that put all the football rumour sites at?
I read tribal football just because i need constant source of reading something on football. And one more thing, they never create any content. All news they put are from the actual rumour creators - The Sun and other shit papers.
Tribalfootball thats on my number one list of shit,ood and colorfull page though,too bad they feed readers loads of crap
Red Rants shold also be on that list of shame,some of those raner rumours are nuthin but shit.Where do these guys get their source from cheerleaders?
This isn’t on my shitlist but i haven’t seen this name anywhere on this website so i thought i’d just ask people what they think of it.
I often go to http://www.soccerway.com. It has a lot of rumours & up-to-date news most of which turn out to be correct (Henry/Klose transfer for example) but it seems to me that they are just slightly half-a-step behind the other more accurate websites. Also has a lot of other good features like live scorecards & very, very comprehensive news coverage from all around the football world (not just europe).

Football-rumours.co.uk is an absolute joke, i always look on there to have a giggle 1st thing in the morning, livens me up for the day. Everyone is related to the groundsman of their chosen team, like the fucking groundsman sits in on contract talks.Site for tossers and no doubt ran by tossers.
Id have to say most of the spurious verbal shite that comes out of BBC 606 ‘football fans’ is up there. All these people saying things like ‘my scond cousin 189 times removed has a reliable source who saw George Best leving Old Trafford today with a view to re-signing, its true i promise’

Unfortunately, we are all a part of the big con,… known as football. We have an addiction to the drug they have, and we will do anything to get more of it. The next two weeks, are some of the most exciting of the season. The transfer window is closing, and I love to watch who is sneaking around, and counting the change in their pockets !! It’s not my fault,… I’m addicted. This is the reason, these sites are full of shit,… because football is full of shit,… and we love it !! If we had any brains, we wouldn’t read any of it. It’s got us strangers talking about it though !!??

Is it just me or does http://www.tribalfootball.com have more reliable news sources than that imagined before?
I’ve noticed quite a few news articles that have propped up in the last few months that have been confirmed through other news agencies a little bit later. Eg - they called the Henry transfer well ahead of time as well as the Robben & Heinze transfer rumours. Just recently they were accurate in the news report about Man Utd’s possible debt burden.
I’m really not sure about this website so that’s why i’m asking other people if they’ve noticed anything like this as well. Does the status of this website have to be revised or what?
What do you guys think?
They have people scouring ALL newspapers for rumours and football news and rumours, and they summarise and reprint EVERYTHING that they find, without eliminating the obviously false rumours.
TF are on the list primarily because they have no editorial guidelines to eliminate false rumours or do any deeper research before publishing their news.
They didn’t ‘call’ the Heinze / Henry / Robben transfers - other newspapers were speculating even before there was anything concrete and they just reprinted that.
And the man utd burden thing? it’s not ‘official’, the official report by MUST isn’t out yet (comes out tomorrow). Again lifted from other news sources.
