Who would you pick for Newcastle?

Who would you pick for Newcastle?

Newcastle United are more troubled than usual these days, what with Keegan’s departure, the fans’ protest and the press having a field day with takeover speculation (Ambani has categorically denied any intentions of buying Newcastle), player revolts (Given is on record as saying that the players need to get on and focus on the next game) and what not.

Money and Houghton – members of the coaching staff – will take over for the weekend game with the search for Newcastle’s next manager still continuing. Poyet has been linked the most but is unlikely to leave Tottenham so soon – might have happened next year but now it seems to come too soon after his Tottenham appointment.

So who’s really in the reckoning? Not Moyes, whose side is better placed than Newcastle in the Premier League and certainly not Hughes or Ince, both at new clubs. Curbishley is a possibility, but there’s a strong indication that like West Ham, Newcastle will go outside Britain.

Didier Deschamps, Zico and Fatih Terim are just a few of the names linked with the Newcastle job while former Italy manager Donadoni could also be in the reckoning.

Who do you think will take over the reins at Newcastle next week?

  1. We dont want any more cockney gits we want rid of them from the very Top

Bill, grow up. I couldn’t care less where the owner and board are from – as long as they all have the best interest of the club as their priority, something which Ashley, Wise & co. don’t . A healthy club means money for the owner

  3. 10/09/2008 Mike D

Why has the new manager or puppet as required have to have been associated with Wise? We need someone who knows about playing good football not kicking the ball around in a prison yard like Wisey.

  4. Graham
so you would put up as manager The Wally with the Brolly side kick ? or even Ince you have to be a joke

  5. 10/09/2008 Graham W

I would like to see either Zico or Rijkaard in personally, as for the whole Ashley saga, he has written off close to £100m of debt, having said that im not trying to defend what has gone on but some people have seemed to have forgotten about this!!

  6. 10/09/2008 Mike D

So he has written off 100 million in debt but now he is writing a football club off.

  7. If i am right at this present time from the top to the bottom there is only Alan Thompson not a Cockney Puppet

  8. He has not written off 100 million debt he has put it on a interest free loan big difference

  9. 10/09/2008 Mike D

Are the monthly payments one player per month until settled

  10. I would like Ashley and his cockeyed cockney dwarf crew to leave and bring back the messiah.
Be United in getting these southern idiots out!

  11. Gary Johnson from Bristol big opportunity back british, if it goes tits up? at least it would be the first wright we have done in the last seven days

  12. e has august out the way and sept oct nov then dec amounth reprive then biggest bids accepted for toon first team players in january lol

  13. YES Mark I would second that!!!
I would like Ashley and his cockeyed cockney dwarf crew to leave and bring back the messiah.
Be United in getting these southern idiots out!

As A Newcastle fan its very easy to blame Ashley, but he is only trying to do his best for the club in a new age of the Premiership, even if it has unfortunalty resulted in King Kev leaving. It is now time to overcome our dispair at KK leaving and look forward as I don’t think a fairy godmother’s going to come along and save us anytime soon. So I hope they appoint Didier Deschamps if he doesn’t get the France Job. He did really well at Monaco and got Juventus promoted (even if he did sign Boumsong) DD 4 Newcastle

  15. 10/09/2008 Mike D

That is correct you cannot blame ashley he was in Hollywood and left everything to the three stooges.

  16. Dave W if you believe this is a “new age” you are having a laugh – look around at what is being spent, we with a small squad were in the bottom 5 net spenders!. No Europe, fans losing interest, sponsors and boxes not being sold. I expect Ashley to sign young players and sell them when their value rises (like with Milner) and Newcastle fans never seeing these players at their very best. Once good money is offered for Xisco – he will be away, mark my words! Basically your “new age” of Newcastle United is a feeder club for clubs willing to spend!
I am not prepared to tolerate that “new age” – but hey that is your choice!

  17. We had a manager we were happy with, it was the lack of spending which was the problem Keegan is one of the fans thats why ashley got rid.
Keegan like Newcastle fans has ambition…
will see the true nufc fans outside of st james on saturday.

  18. 10/09/2008 sick of moaning

Sorry, this will probably grate on a few of you but all these southern xenophobic comments and militant anti-Ashley solutions are starting to get on my tits. How can very few people see the potential damage all this shit is doing to our club, our reputations as Geordies AND our city!. I just want the club to do well – Wise has helped bring in 3, potentially 5 top class signings. So he might have undermined our glorious ex-leader, but KK was offered the opportunity to iron things out and walked, again. There are PLENTY more fish in the sea. Why can’t we just get on with it, support the team, and stop whinging. The media are having field day ridiculing our antics. KK is gone, if Ashley sells up – great, he can FO to Hollywood and buy a film studio but he ain’t gona be forced out. Get real, and more importantly get behind the team on Saturday, and keep the faith. Oh, and controversially, if I had a choice I’d go for cockney-boy Stuart Pearce.

  19. “sick of moaning” No body said dont get behind your team, no body said we dont want the team to do well – quite the opposite. Yes there are plenty more fish in the sea – none of any stamp that want to come here though, and this isnt just about keegan, this is about Milner and other players – it for me even goes to Allerdice. So you are happy to renew you manager every 8 months. Like the cod in the north sea the fish will start running out!

  20. 10/09/2008 Dave W

Just to clear up I was refering to the “New Age” of the Premiership not Newcastle.

  21. 10/09/2008 sick of moaning

Mark, fair comment, I was expecting a little more abuse to be honest. I totally agree that we’re rubbish at keeping managers, and this is another one of my gripes that goes back to Keegan’s first run for me. We’ll never have any sort of stability until we get a manager in for at least 2 and a half seasons. I just get sick of the media painting NUFC and Newcastle in a bad light. The more the fans go on about the current fiasco the more we become a laughing stock, in turn being dragged down even further by the Southern-based media. Personally I’d rather everyone just forgot KK was ever here and look forward to this season, WITH OPTIMISM!

  22. Dave W – I understand what you mean. What have Newcastle spend net this year?? Look at the below mate. I know this isnt net but hey ho
    • Premier League clubs have committed to around £500m in respect of player transfer fees in the summer 2008 transfer window. This is a record amount around £30m (6%) higher than the previous record spending in summer 2007, and around double the amount committed in each of the previous summer transfer windows since 2003.
    • Each of Aston Villa, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur has reportedly spent more than £30m on player acquisitions in the summer transfer window.

I live in the US now so I don’t get a chance to look at the papers everyday, but I can see what Ashley is trying to do. I think bringing Keegan in is what the Fans wanted. I thought it was a bad idea to begin with. I think the signings have been quality players, not the overpriced superstars that Keegan wanted to bring in. I also think looking at what other clubs are spending is rubbish. Overpaying for players is financial suicide. No matter what Country you live in. I didnt want nufc to sell Milner but when I saw how much Villa were offering. That was an offer no club could refuse.

  24. 10/09/2008 DarkDevil

I think Dennis “Not So Wise” Wise should take over as Newcastle manager. That way Wise and the board can pat themselves on the back for not doing the right things for the club. I’m a Red Devil but It just amazes me how badly Newcastle football club is run.

Anyway, I say Wise for the job of manager. I don’t think he’d last longer than a year and you know its not really Newcastle unless they have a manager who’s career at the club is either as dull as the black and white stripes or short as the board’s combined IQ.

  25. 10/09/2008 matt mann

Well it’s pretty sad listening to a lot of these comments,i mean kk was passionate and undoubtedly loves the club but lets face it he was a shite manager. We are talking about a guy that wanted to buy the likes of Henry an Beckhamthis summer. His knowledge of great up and coming players from outside the uk was minimal.Think about it the only way we are going to attract great players whether young or old is to have a manager that can attract them.A manager that plays good football and is respected the world over not some second rate guy just because he is one of us. The best person for our club is ZICO.An icon in world football and soon hopefully in the Toon. If you can manage in Turkey you can manage anywhere. I pray to god we ZICO!!!!!

  26. 10/09/2008 Graham W

What worries me is the news that INCE is being touted, he is just trying to buy Macclesfield and MK Dons players now come on isnt anyone worried bout that, we need a man who is used to dealing with a Director of Football, Zico has that ability, Terim i think would be a good choice too, my concern over Deschamps is he is a wise old chelsea boy and Poyet lacks the experience and is unproven.

  27. 10/09/2008 CHARLO

    Dark Devil

Typical man U fan absolutely full of shit, why dont you have a word with ashley and co they are the same as you u little cockney cunt.I hate everything to do with ur club The arrogant players you have, the shit city it is in,the worst fans in the world,we might have problems but i wouldnt trade places with you for all the shit in Manchester so why dont you take your sarky little comments and shove them up ur arse yo little cocksuckin twat.

  28. 11/09/2008 TINGJUN

    WE WANT KEVIN KEEGAN BACK!!
If not maybe we can get Zico, Rijkaard, Mancini…

  29. 11/09/2008 matthew

    Fatih Terim.

he is the one of the best

  30. 11/09/2008 matt mann

WE NEED SOMEONE WITH CLASS……..ZICO….AND HE WANTS THE JOB

  31. Class = Fatih Terim or Zico

King Kev Could be first prize with Wise not so wise Vetere, Jiminez, Llambias and that Ashley out, I hate to say this but Freddie was better.

  32. 12/09/2008 DarkDevil

Charlo – I’m sorry, did I pinch a nerve. Don’t get mad with me because your club can’t seem to see further than their small noses. And don’t get me started with your club and Newcastle fans. Shit mate, Newcastle fans all seem to reside in the seemingly large suburb of delusion-ville. You all think that the toon are a ‘big’ club that should be winning the champions league and premier league every season.

Wake up mate! By the way you crude racist bastard, I’ll fucking be smug if I fucking want to and if you don’t like it you can go and cry some black and white tears!

  33. 12/09/2008 Bamber

    Charlo:

MUFC is better run than Newcastle, how many Premiership titles have your lot won? Your club is becoming a laughing stock and to be honest I would love any job in football management, except NUFC. Fuck that. Ashley has made the club a joke amongst football. You wouldn’t trade places with MUFC? You don’t want the titles, champions leagues, players like Berbatov and a manger who’s been there over 20 years, most NUFC managers last less than 20 months, give your head a wobble you narrow minded fuck.

Oh and before you call me a Manc, I’m actually a Blackpool fan!
