Who would you fire from Tottenham?
The Spurs sack race
Spurs’ woeful start to the season has heaped pressure on two key figures at White Hart Lane. The players might be taking some of the flak, but they are not likely to lose their jobs over the team’s current relegation form.
No, it is the off-field personalties who face the chop. Fairly obviously the man with dagger hanging closest to his cranium is Juande Ramos. The Spaniard has overseen the club’s first silverware in a decade but also their worst start to a season in 53 years. On current form, it is difficult to see the ex-Sevilla boss lasting beyond October in his post.
But while the temptation is to go straight for the manager, the relatively continental set-up at White Hart Lane means that Damien Comolli is just as likely a candidate for the chop. The director of football has overall responsibility for scouting among other things, so he has to take a portion of the blame for this summer’s transfer flops. Another line of attack which many Spurs fans are taking is that Comolli is the thread that runs between the disappointment of the final days of Martin Jol’s tenure and the man currently in the hot-seat. Ramos had no hand in the failings of the Jol regime, but Comolli certainly did.
Comolli is undoubtedly Daniel Levy’s man, which means he is less likely to get the shove. The two clearly have a close relationship and Levy will be reluctant to admit that his ally is part of the problem. Also, while Spurs are clearly having serious problems at the moment, there is a great deal of class in their squad. They should not be bottom of the table with the personnel they have available, and it is Ramos who must take ultimate responsibility for sending out 11 players capable of winning football matches. That is not happening at the moment.
So, it is time to play Alan Sugar. Which one would you fire? Do they both deserve more time or do they both have to go?

I would get rid of Ramos, he doesn’t seem to know what team to play with have youngsters that should a least get a game, he says we have no strikers, but he sent Pekhart out on loan, I think he should play Tarabatt behind the main striker and give him a free role and let his loose on defenders with his runs trough the middle
Why does anyone need to be fired? That’s a stupid knee jerk reaction to a [problem that is most likely temporary. 6 games into the season and you want a scalp? Have you forgotten this is the same management team that rose us from relegation to 11th. and won a Carling Cup? Absolutely ridiculous. Maybe you should be fired for trying to stir it up like those idiots from Fleet Street. Get a grip and get behind the team. AND GIV
AND GIVE THEM TIME to become a “team”. We have some terrific new players that hardly know each other. Please take a chill pill and in a month or so all will be well again.
Fair enough. It was an option if you had read to the end…
Scorpion, get your facts right. We have won just five games in 2008. We are in a worse position than Derby was this time last season. How can players get to know one another when they are on the bench, or not selected for the bench. Gunter, Modric, Dos Santos, plus people like Lennon. We still have players like underperforming like Jenas, Zokora, Akouto, get them in the reserves. With your views see you in the Championship next year, no one is too good to go down.
Damien Comolli- for not able to bring in the strikers like David Villa & Diego Milito.
Assou-Ekotto & Gilberto- for making too many mistake & under perform, league 1 material.
The problems started when Commoli came in. He got rid of Jol with Levy’s permission. He pinned his hopes on Ramos. He got it wrong. Ramos has got it wrong and levy it wrong hiring and sticking with Commoli. All three should go.
Why does anyone need to be fired – this is not about 6 games. Go back and see Spurs record for the year.
I’m a diehard Spurs man but Juande must take some blame for putting out the eleven on the pitch – the side is not balanced and this space is too small to list the problems that I have with his home and away starting elevens – and I’m all the way in South Africa that is entirely populated with Man U,Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal supp. – I’m emigrating….
Damien commolli. enough said
Get rid of Commoli, move Ramos to Director of Football and appoint Poyet as Manager.
DVC: my facts are entirely right. We have only played 6 games this season and have not been run off the pitch once. We even drew at the Bridge. Last season has nothing to do with this one. Entirely different team. I know you’re obviously still sore at Jol leaving but that shouldn’t make you wish that we lose to prove you’re right. Get behind the team and have a look at Ramos’ record and tell me how he got stupid overnight. Right now is a time for us to come together in support of our team, not pile on a guy who is trying to put a new team together. And telling him “you don’t know what you’re doing”, does exactly what for the club? I thought that type of behaviour was reserved for moronic Toon supporters. I’m ashamed at those that did that and in fact if it were up to me I would duct tape all of their mouths shut on entry into the next game. Absolutely embarrassing and anyone that did it has no right to call themselves a Spurs fan.
Send Commoli back to Arsenal, appoint Ramos as Director of football and put Poyet in chatge of the first team
Ramos record at Sevilla was decent. Before that is was rubbish. If it will take him 10 years to master the English game, then he can come manage Spurs in 2020. What is his record in the English game?
5 cups in 2 years for a team that no one believed could challenge Spain’s big clubs? One cup in less than a year in England and he knows nothing about the “English game”. Give me a break and stop talking nonsense. What exactly did Jol win in 3 years? Not a thing; if you say he finished 5th. twice, so what? A loser is a loser. Jol has won not a thing as manager and is not qualified to even be mentioned in the same sentence as Ramos. You will eat your words very soon because he will get this thing turned around.
Scorpion, I have been attending White Hart Lane since 1952, and can say this is the worst ongoing performances I have seen. Who takes the blame for getting rid of last years best player Malbranque? Who is responsible for changing the team at every game? A good manager in Spain does not make him a good EPL manager. Last years team was his team, he had the January window to make changes, and managed for for over 30 EPL games, and had , and still has a worse record than Jol, Hoddle, Ardiles etc. For 5 million pounds a year he does not cut it.
If Ramos is feeling the pressure then he must be homesick. I think that he should leave, i would like us to win early than late because the expectations get negative.
Frank Rijkaard for spurs manager? Atleast he speaks clear english.
Scorpion
Is this the same Jol who is top of the Bundersleige??
Give us one good reason to think he will succeed.
Motivation????
Team Selection????
Performance????
English Language????
Paella?? maybe
bring back jol . fire ramos .
i also live in south africa man u , chelsea and liverpool fans surround me everyday .i have been a spurs supporter since 10 yrs old i am know 36 . it is making me sick to see spurs lose . can someone pls be fired ? Ramos go home .
Jol is top of the German league. Wow. After how many games? Talk to me at the end of the season, just like you should remember what you have said about our poor start. You lot that want to change managers every time we go on a cold streak make me laugh. Winning teams have continuity. Ever heard of Ferguson or Wenger? They have the comfort in knowing they can make decisions that go wrong and won’t be fired for them. You and your ilk want a new manager every five minutes. Why? He has a proven track record and needs time to gel HIS team. It’s called a work in progress. Give the guy a break. I was also present during the double winning season and you might recall that the manager in those days was given PLENTY of time to stamp his mark. I bet you were were not unhappy with Ramos when he won us the Carling Cup last year. You were probably as happy as me. So what he changed? A few bad results. As I said before take a chill pill.
Ramos largely won the cup with the team that Jol built – and he had the luxury of getting 2 top defenders that Jol always wanted. Now that Ramos has his team (and I get the feeling he did not rate Keane) you can evaluate him. Two 5th place finishes is a lot damn harder than winning one cup.
hey 3 fans from South Africa!
hi abe , whats happening i am sick of losing . carl s.a
Juande’s proven EPL track record, 3 wins since the Cup Final, 5 wins in 2008. Worst league start for 45 years.
So you must be over 50 to have been five at the time
Billy Nick would not have stood for the lame displays of some of the current players. If they did not perform then they would have been out. He started with mid table then improved, currently we were mid table (end last season) now we are rock bottom.
A managers job is to select and motivate. Continuity!!! we have not had continuity once this season, why not start at Pompey with the team that finished reasonably well at Newcastle.
A Wenger & A Ferguson can all speak English, albeit a little slanted!
Spurs’ ambitions are not in the league but in the cups because I have a feeling that Levy as resolvede on trying the same trick as last season which is : win a cup, get into europe and avoid relegation.
It’s got to be that! why else would Ledley King still be a spurs player? How can the team have consistency when you don’t play the same Eleven in two subsequent games?
Ledley was “rested” again yesterday, rested! rested???what is the use of a player that cannot play two games in a row?
It distrupts the balance ofnthe team and the player himself is never a hundred percent sharp because of lack of games.
How embarrassing was it to hear Poyet say yesterday that our two star strikers are too similar and cannot play together? eh? didn’t someone think to check that before signing Paly? And if that is the situation we have now why not play Campbell with one or the other in a 442 formation that these thick lazy players like and understand?
Why are we playing one up front with a loaded midfield of underachieving players who would not last month at any of the top four teams and I include Jenas,Lennon, Bentley … infact the whole team save for O’hara in this. Ekoto is a waste of space that never runs back and has the footballing brain of a peanut.
The youngsters that we have at the club Huddlestone, Lennon, Bale Gunther have not developed anymore than they were a couple of seasons ago.
Ramos plays players out of position all the time. In the European game we had five players playing out of position at one point. The players don’t know what is happenning from game to game so it’s difficult to blame them although 90% of them are seriously underachiveing.
All I know is that I love Spurs, I have loved them all my life and will continue to love them even when the owners have made their millions and moved on.
So as to the question “who would you fire from tottenham? All of them…obviously not all at once but Comoli would be the first.
Leace Scorpion alone, he at least realises that as a feeder club we cannot aspire to win anything, simply avoid being relegated. So, leave Ramos alone, unless we look like being in trouble towards the end of the season and then send for Klinsman, and let him develop players like Modric Dos Santos Lennon, Bale, Gunter etc. When this is done Levy can sell them for huge profits and then see Arsenal cringe when we have an open top bus ride around North London to display our Balance Sheet.
I give up. 6 games into the season and so many of you want to fire everyone. I do not agree and believe Ramos has enough good credit after winning a trophy last season that we should give him time to settle his team, and finish the revamp of his squad in January. We are not going down. I would bet my house on that. We are also not winning the prem. So why fire the manager? We have done that too often, it’s time to relax and not make panic decisions. The sad thing about us is that if we win Thursday and v Hull and Stoke, a lot of you moaners will be saying we will finish in the top 6 again. Unbelievable.
We cannot sack another manager but let this run the course for at least this season. How many managers have we had since Wenger took over Arsenal? Sack the cups and concentrate on the league before it’s too late!
To be honest. Jenas is a good player but inconsistent, instead Zokora is getting better from last season. In my opinion so far, he shouldn’t be in the team. Hang on!! easy easy… I know he’s scored a lot of important goal that’s why I said he’s a good player but not good enough in my opinion.
And Bale shouldn’t play left wing while left back is his best position. We obviously need a natural left wing and defensive midfielder who can win the ball in the middle of the pitch, also a world class striker like David Villa or Huntelaar might do.
P.S. If we could replace Jenas with Arshavin would be great
Ade,100% agree with you.
Funny, were they not the team to push LFC and aresnal out of the top 4? Mind, Aston Villa are third. For how long?
Nobody should be sacked from Spurs, they made a stupid mistake in rushing too many new players in at one time. I often criticize Chelsea of doing it, finally they only bring in a few new players and they are phenomenal.
Pavluychenko is pure quality and once he clicks he will be a great signing not sure about Modric yet, dont know if he will be able to adapt but its another special player in there.
Spurs just need to wait, if they are still battling relegation in January then questions will need to be asked but just keep things the way they are things will only get better
For me the person who needs to go is obvious- Damian Comolli. He bought badly this summer. He should have spent money for a left-sided midfielder instead of Bentley.
Why we didn’t splash to get a top striker I’ll never know. With the loss of Defoe, Keane and Berba, I find it amazing that we try and replace them with Pavlyuchenko and Campbell, with the latter just bein on loan!
We seem to have plenty of money but no idea how to spend it!
Ben for Spurs’ new Director of Football. I agree with every word mate
I guess Levy should take all the blame and the person who is in charge of transfers…
They let the Berba saga too long, which affected the team to settle in, similarly the Ashravin saga…
They should have completed their transfers before season start..
They let two fantastic strikers to leave the club, and haven’t bought enough replacement…
lol maybe if tottenham didnt by a so many half arsed Attacking mids and got some quality defenders and DM’s. Tottenham is too fragile, its not the goal scoring that lets them down but the lack of strength in their third, they also cant control the midfield and give it up to easily. Blame in on the guy that bought all the players, ramos has to play them because he will be told to.
Babu has it right. Why would a team get rid of their main scorers at the same time? Tottenham deserves what they are getting! With all the money they made off Berbatov and Keane, they certainly have not put it to good use.
I think everyones panicking too much too early. Yes, Spurs have had some poor results so far this season but when you think about it, with the Keane, Berbatov, Arshavin saga’s all happening in the same transfer period and the fact that Spurs bought in a lot of new players, things weren’t going to just miraculously happen overnight. The players have to get used to playing with and for each other. The manager and couch have to realise the most effective formation to play. I think, give Ramos time. Eventually, the result’s will return.
ramos promised top 4 contenders and we look as if we will be contending to stay afloat in the league. the whole thing is a mess. if we could go all the way back to last year, id wish they never got rid of jol, the players loved him. i believe fully keano left because he thought ramos was a cunt, so he left. ramos isnt ready for the english game it seems. the whole team has looked unispiring at times and its very stressful lol. anyway i say give ramos another 10 games in all competitions and then make a decision. the whole thing is fucked up so we’ll talk til then.
Does anyone still think spurs will pip Arsenal for 4th place? Care to bet on it spuds?? Hahahahaha!!
Well, I have analysed everything, everybody has to say! I’m not totally a Spurs fan, but I don’t know why I want them to win!
According to me, Spurs will finish this season as top four, yeah it does not look like its going to happen at the moment! I’m the same guy who predicted Italy to win World Cup and Spain to win Euro, so you wouldn’t want to bet against me! If Spurs do finish 4th, then who is gonna bite the dust! In my view, Arsenal will end up 5th, but things could change a lot in a course of a year! Chelsea and ManU are up for the title and Liverpool are doing good lately!
But, my bet for one of the top teams to finish 5th–>
Arsenal – 10/1
ManU – 12/1
Liverpool – 15/1
Chelsea – 25/1
So, my third prediction – Spurs to finish 4th!
(It will be dramatic, might even go down to the last game of the season!)
But, it will be also a good thing for the team that finishes 5th, coz it will have the highest chance of Champions League success!
are spurs such a big club to attract DAVID VILLA…….hahahahahaha………..
