Who will replace Lehmann at Arsenal?
At 37, and reportedly uninterested in agreeing to Arsenal’s terms for a contract, there’s is a chance that Jens Lehmann could leave Arsenal in the summer.
Leaving or not, Lehmann’s at the age where he will need to be replaced soon, and Arsenal must already be looking at potential recruits (somehow I don’t think that Almunia can cut it as a first-choice Arsenal keeper).
The one name Wenger and co MUST be after is Buffon, and considering the volume of rumours that connected Juve and Arsenal on Buffon last summer I’m pretty sure Arsenal will make a move for him when the time comes to search for Lehmann’s successor.
I imagine that there would be other clubs after Buffon as well, but Arsenal have a headstart on this one, and eventually it will come down to Juve’s ability to keep their star keeper.
Who do you think Arsenal will sign? What other options are there apart from Buffon?

timo hildebrand, sebastion frey, akinfeev
i think the fav is buffon, my favorite at least. also, timo hildebrand and igor akinfeev should be options
IF ALL FAILS IN THE BUFFON BID I’D LIKE TO SEE ARSENAL MAKE A BID FOR CELTIC KEEPER ARTUR BORUC AS HE IS AN OUTSTANDING KEEPER!!
I think we will get Craig Gordon from Hearts. An excellent YOUNG keeper, and about GBP 25 million cheaper than Buffon!
Mart Poom Forever!
craig gordon from hearts
Almunia of recent has impressed and may be artur boruc
Artur Boruc and Gordon is more likely to come to Arsenal than Buffon. He’s too expensive. I don ‘t think he actually that great when he played Arsenal at Highbury last year.So I go for Boruc and Gordon
Don’t those ref-bribers at Juve still owe us money for Paddy V?
I cant believe noone has mentioned Casillas, a proven top quality keeper who is reportedly disgruntled at the difference in wonga offered to those that progress into the Real Madrid from the youth set-up and the so-called galacticos they sign. Surely he should at least make the list, even if it will be as difficult as prising Buffon from Juve which would be my number 1 choice.
Wenger will go for Given (30 this year). He keeps saying he likes keepers to be this age. He also likes Given. The only issue is whether Given will force the issue with Newcastle (if he ever wants to win anything, play in CL it is now or never!).
Bufon is a dream signing, not just the best keeper in the world hands down, won the world cup 4 italy on his own and voted Fifa best player in the world. how many keepers have won world player of the year?i would say no chance, but i can dream init.
Akinfeev is mucxh more likely and looks like he can be a star.
My bet is on Given as well. Further more and slightly off topic, I will be happy to see him leave the premiership. I have nothing against most of the other Arsenalplayers but to me Lehman is the proven badguy in english football, always trying to be comedian but ends up being a bully. Ronaldo is the booboy right now but if there is one player who really would deserve such a treatment(I dont like the booing at all) then its Lehman.
What about Ben Foster? Watford might be willing for the right price.
There’s no denying that Buffon is top notch and someone I’d like to see at Arsenal. But grime mentioned above that he was world player of the year and im pretty sure that it was cannavaro that won world player of the year.
Oliver Kahn
Ben Foster?
If you think United are going to let Foster go to Arsenal, then you need to lay off the smack.
ben foster is not a watford player, he’s on loan from man u
haha……… don act like a sohai la fritz….. Manu wont let foster go to a rival club la lolz……. as i know that gordon has link wif manu so i think given is the biggest chance la….. but it will be better with buffon la
Buffon would be my number one option but is likely to cost at the very least 10-15m which Wenger will never pay, If we dont get Buffon i hope Wenger doesnt go for Carson (5m rip-off for someone whos had one good season) Instead id like to see Akinfeev - this man has an amazing future ahead of him and if not then Boruc! Both would cost a fair bit but are 2 of the best goalkeepers around IMO
Akinfeev is mucxh more likely and looks like he can be a star.or Casillas,Almunia of recent has impressed and may be artur boruc
Lehmann isn’t past it yet, all keepers make mistakes! He’s one of the best keepers out there! however i do think they need to drop him for a few games, and give Fabianski a chance. I think a bit of competition will get him back to his best. plus giving Fabianski the games will give him a better chance of being the number 1. We’ve got 3 top keepers we don’t need to look any further than the squad we already have.
i dissagree lee pownall, lehmann is past it, almunia has only some good day mostely bad and fabianski we dont know much about so for me we should put in a bid for the portugiuse ricardo or buffon but thats not arsenes stile so he would probably go for an 18 year old nobody has ever herd of and then in about 3 years he will be 1 of the best in the world, but 3 years is not now
I think Almunia and Fabiansky are good enough, they may need a third choice keeper(who incidently can be Jens). Almunia is anyday better than Jens at defending set pieces. Fabiansky was playing regularly in his native league(polish?). With this background i dont think Wenger will be spending on another goalie…………….
Ok fair enough, I’m actually torn on whether Lehmann is past it or not but I do think that Fabianski should be the first to step in. He’s sounded promising the things i’ve heard about him. And why bring him in if he’s no better than Almunia? he actually could be the guy uncle gunner is talking about. but until we see him in action we won’t know!
Dont forget we still have Fabianski, he’s a good keeper.
